Import has failed: Data at the root level is invalid...

Running into a few issues.

Issue 1
To replicate:

Aircraft: CS L1011
In detective
After mapping some events, do an export
Exit GIT, exit P3D
Start GIT, start P3D
In detective
Import the file exported

Result: Import has failed: Data at the root level is invalid.  Line 1, position 1.

Issue 2
If P3D panel serialization is enabled, every defined mapping will produce an "Out of Range" error.  I think this is when the values are actually being removed/deleted from file.

Issue 3
Inconsistency in events appearing in Detective event window.  I can't find any consistency, sometimes the events will show sometimes they don't ... setting the polling interval doesn't seem to make much of a difference.  In addition, the event list will sometimes just go blank, as if overloaded and just stops updating (even at the longest polling interval) ... or the entire listbox will just flash rather than scroll events.

OS: Win10
FS Platform: P3D V3.1

Cheers, Rob.

  • UPDATE to Issue1:

In further testing, it looks like the XML files exported from GIT have no CR/LF which seems to be the cause of the error message.  If I edit the files using Ultra Edit and convert it to XML with CR/LF and save, then the GIT import works.

  • Hi rob,

Issue 1 is odd as the import/export routine hasn't changes in ages!

    Issue 2 - I don't understand what you mean.

Issue 3 - You can overload detective. Make sure you have filtered out all the noise before turning up the polling interval to max.

    Best wishes

  • Hey Steve,

    1. Interesting, so it sounds like the serialize to xml references in your code (assume you use System.Xml.Serializer) is operating differently on my system ... this could be a clue to not being able to use latest GFDev with GIT.

    2.  If I enable Panel Serialization in P3D V3.x, save a flight, exit P3D, load P3D, load the saved flight, GIT will trigger "Out of Range" errors and it appears to actually remove the "offending" BE spoke usage from the XML.  If I repeat the steps, but "disable" Panel Serialization in P3D, GIT will not error.

    3.  Yes, I believe perhaps that was the case, could also be CS L1011.  It was very odd that the GIT detective found Lvars in one session, but can no longer find the same Lvars in any subsequent session.

Although, this may or may not be related to Windows 10, I think I'm going to have to revert back to Windows 7 ... I'm just encountering too many show stopper issues with Win10 that's taking too much of my time that could be put to better use.

    Cheers, Rob.

  • Hi Rob,

I have hopefully fixed issue 1. Try an export an import again with this version:

  • Hi Rob,

I have just tried the panel serialisation on a default aircraft with no problems using the version of GIT in the above post. Can you check to see if using 2.1.18.7 has also fixed this issue. If not can you name a few other aircraft that cause it as I don't have the L1011.

    Thx

    Steve

  • Opps, didn't see this until now ... late ... but will test out 2.1.19.4

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Hi Rob,

I think issue 2 is now resolved.

    Best wishes

    Steve
