FlyEngravity interface
Hi,
I've bought the FlyEngravity interface to use my 737 CDU with the PMDG 737NGX. The CDU and interface work great, however there is 1 small issue I've discovered.
Sometimes during preflight (when you're programming the CDU), it can happen that the CDU display goes completely blank, and after about 4-5 secs. turns back on again. When the CDU is left alone (e.g. during cruise phase), this problem does not appear. I've been trying to locate the log file, but I can't find it anywhere. The log says something about a disconnection. The blank display is only present for about 4-5 secs. and it can happen about 3-4 times during preflight. All my settings are as suggested in the userguide.
Any ideas? and where to find the log file, so I can attach it.
Best regards,

Hi Jon,
The Log is the tab, there is no actual file.
It sounds like the Interface thinks the CDU is disconnected and restarts the connection process. Increase the Disconnect Timeout and Timeout Threshold in the Settings tab and all should be well.
EDIT - It may be worth setting the above to maximum at first and if the problem goes away, start to reduce the settings until the problem reappears. If that doesn't work; let me know and I'll update the software to provide an option to not detect disconnection.
Best wishes

Hi,
I have a similar issue. My Engravity CDU is for the 747 (No colour only green screen type). On the status tab the 3 "balls" at the bottom go green but no text appears onscreen. The "1" ball stays red. The FMC CDU input keys work OK. Appreciate any suggestions for a fix.

Hi Steve,
I have the 747 version. Check the following:
1) Are you using the very latest version of the NGX released a few weeks back?
2) Does the file <flight sim directory>\PMDG\PMDG 737 NGX\737NGX_Options.ini contain the following:
[SDK]
EnableCDUBroadcast.0=1
EnableDataBroadcast=1
3) Have you correctly set the Baud rates in the FMC and in the Interface?
4) Ensure the Settings tab is configured for only 1 CDU.
5) See the FAQ entry "My MCP PRO or MCP Advanced is not updating its display (just showing zeroes)" as this equally applies to the Engravity CDU.

Hi Steve,
Appreciate the quick response. I have gone through all of your suggestions and checked (they are all set as you outlined above) with no success. The backlight on the CDU is on but no text. On the settings tab on the interface the "0"ball is still green but the "1" and "2" stay red.
Thanks for developing this software as I am hoping to bring the CDU back from being "obsolete".

Hi Steve,
The 1 and 2 LED's are for other CDU units attached, so you can ignore that.
Is the Aircraft LED on the status tab pulsing slightly?
EDIT - Steve, I have managed to recreate what you are experiencing and it may be relevant. If the power cable is connected to the CDU first and then the USB cable is connected, no text will appear on the CDU. If you connect the USB cable first and then the power cable, everything works fine! Try it, it may be the cause.

Hi Steve,
You sir are a genius! That worked! CDU back in service at last after 8 years. Text looks much better than Level D 767. What would it take to get this working in PMDG 777? Thanks so much.
Steve
Hi Steve,
Really glad its sorted! There must be a bug in the CDU firmware to cause this issue as you cannot get the CDU setup screen (EXEC + S) to display either if you connect the cables in the wrong order.
I have already written to PMDG to ask them to include the CDU screen data in the 777 SDK. The more people that contact PMDG for it, I would hope the more likely they would be to produce it - so get in touch with them as well!
Best wishes

Steve,
I will!
