Hi Steve,
Just tried to import this XML into Detective in GIT v2.350.0 and got the popup warning "Import Has Failed: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values." Any ideas?
As a side note, I would be *most* grateful if the import/export routines (and even the core user.config itself) was done using 'proper' XML, rather than thrice-quoted XML-inside-XML-inside-XML, as it appears to be currently.
And I'm getting a dent in my forehead from nutting the monitor

No disrepect intended, but it makes any kind of data-rescue nigh on impossible, because (in the user.config) there are at least two different types of escaping being used (for example, the character > gets converted to > at some levels of nesting, and further converted to > at the next level down. Even the Detective Import/Export file uses one layer of escaping and is an XML-inside-XML. Knowing what to convert to what escape-format at what level, is proving an elusive quest for me!
I'm beginning to think it'll be easier for me to simply write my JS4100 Bespoke Events again 'from the top' than it is to try and salvage/convert my original busted JS4100 config.
I will plough on though - just in case I crack it!
Cheers
Neil
Hi Neil,
I think I still have your config. I'll try it on my PC and come back to you.
Best wishes
Steve
Hi Neil,
The config I had of yours loaded fine for me. Send me your latest config and I'll remove the JS41 events, import mine and send you a copy to see if it will load.
What hardware do you have? I'm wondering if its a problem with different hardware configurations.
Best wishes
Steve
Hi Steve,
I've not made any changes to configs since this lockup, alas. I just don't fly the JS41 with GIT at the moment!
I'm wondering whether there is something wrong (or old) with my MCP-Advanced - perhaps it's ancient firmware. I'm its third owner, I believe and although it works fine, it never has told me on startup what firmware revision it is (like I understand its supposed to do). It just scrolls 123456 across the windows a few times and that's that. No obvious 'idents' or anything helpful. I had a word with its previous owner (who gave it to me in about 2007) - and it turns out he purchased it off a friend who is no longer on the FS scene anymore, but we reckon he must've purchased it in about 2004 or 2005, perhaps.
Not sure whether that sheds any light, or whether there's much else to examine?
As for the other hardware, we're talking ASUS P8P67 Evo motherboard with an Intel i5 2500K driving it, and an ASUS/nVidia GTX570 DirectCUII with 1.3G onboard video-RAM. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit flavour. Nothing overclocked unless they came that way from the manufacturers. Go-Flight's MCP-Advanced is plugged into one of the boards USB2 connectors, not the USB3 ones.
If you have time, I'd happily take your version of my original config and see whether it runs - but given that the JS41 config distributed in this thread at the top won't load (and that's not been subject to any of my tinkering), I'm wondering whether it might be a waste of your time? I'll understand it if you have bigger fish to fry! But of course, any help given will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Neil
Hi Neil,
I have completed a new version that allows import and export of configs for the MCPPRO, MCP Advanced and EFIS. It just needs some final testing before I release it - I was hoping tonight but my brain is switching off!
I have also built JS4100 configs for the EFIS and MCP's that can be imported, so I think just pull out your JS4100 data and import my events and configs and see what happens.
Keep a look out tomorrow night for it.
Best wishes
Steve
Thanks, Steve - that sounds excellent. Much appreciated. I won't hold you to it. I'm bashing database code for the second time this evening and fully appreciate your comment about brain-switch-off, so I'm not in any rush and completely understand! 'As and when' is fine by me!
Cheers
Neil
Hi Neil,
The new version of software and JS4100 configs (via the downloads page) is up. Give it a whirl. If you config still won't load and its the same as the one you sent me I've cut out the JS4100 stuff for you so it should be OK to use the one attached.
Best wishes
Steve
