PMDG GF-46 XPNDR

G'day Steve

I've just received my GF-46 Module (to use as a XPNDR and ADF with the NGX) but I cannot bring it to life with the PMDG even with the default offering in GIT. I can identify the module through GIT but it doesn't display anything. With default a/c through GFconfig I can get it to display XPNDR and ADF so I know the module does work.

GIT 2.0.350.0 is installed.

Could I please have some help <sob> .

    Hi Chris,

You have double checked you have enabled it in GIT?

    Hi Steve

Yes, I've Enabled it under 46R. I can click Identify and it shows as D0 000000 but when I go back to the sim it doesn't display anything from the 46R settings. I'm really puzzled.

    Cheers

    Hi Chris,

I've just tested it out and although the displays are working for me, the rotary is not allowing any changes for Simconnect based data/events. It looks like a bug has crept in when the GF166's were added.

I'll take a look tomorrow and get an update out. In the meantime you could use the GoFlight PMDG Interface which does work with the GF46 and can be installed and used along with GIT.

    Best wishes

    Hi Chris,

I think I had a NGX problem (I had just installed the NGX, as my system had just be rebuilt due to a hard drive crash) because everything is working OK now following a restart.

That doesn't help you though. Can you check that nothing is assigned in GFConfig for the GF46.

    Thx

    Hi Steve

I have confirmed that there is nothing assigned to the GF46 via GFconfig. What I have however realised is that in GIT there is no "ENABLE" function for 46R. You can select Device 0 but you can't specifically enable it. I did this and saved the settings then checked the user.config and the device is showing as disabled. As a workaround I had to close GIT, edit user.config by hand and set the GF46 to enabled and then restart GIT. My GF46 is now working. Could you please check as why 46R Tab does not have a specific "enable" selection?

One suggestion for the product: I would really like a confirmation that when I press "save settings" that the settings have been successfully saved. I always feel I need to go and check the config file to be sure.

    Thanks

Just as a quick update Steve I can confirm that the rotary is working intermittently. Sometimes I can select, sometimes I can't.

    Hi Chris,

There are two tabs for the GF46 (46O and 46R - one is for options the other is for rotaries). The enable function is on the 46O tab.

Which functions are use using when its intermittent i.e. transponder and what is the state of the NGX (cold and dark or ready to taxi etc.)

    Thx

    Steve

    Hi Steve

For me as an end User it makes no sense whatsoever to have the enabling function for 46R on the 46O tab. If I only want to use the Rotary function I would not think to go and activate the module on the Option tab because I'm not using that function.

As for the intermittent functions which do not work, they are: XPNDR, ADF, COM1A, COM1S, NA1S. FLT ALT and LAND ALT work. (So far I am only using the default offerings in GIT).

On Sunday I demonstrated the module and GIT to a friend (he was most impressed btw!) and I could sometimes get the module and GIT to work properly by unplugging the USB cable and reconnecting it. So, during the demo session it initially didn't work frozen as above, after reconnecting and restarting GIT etc everything worked. I'm not sure whether to conclude it's an interface problem or that I perhaps have a faulty module ?

    Cheers

    Hi Chris,

Is it working absolutely fine in GFConfig and FSX without GIT?

    Best wishes

    G'day Steve

Sorry for the delay. I've just installed new (bigger) SSDs in my Sim PC and have done a complete reinstall myself. Result: GF46 still doesn't come alive with GIT. With GFConfig and the default FSX Cessna it is alive and well displaying XPNDR and ADF with no problems cycling between the two and no freezing so far. I'm still not sure what the problem is when I use it with GIT.

    Hi Chris,

I'll look into the problem. There are some delays built in to stop freezing similar to the MCP PRO but they aren't end user changeable. I'll look at increasing the delays and see if it stops the freezing for you.

    Best wishes

    Hi Chris,

New release adds sliders for you to adjust the delays. They are on the settings tab.

    Best wishes
