CDU is responding slow

Hi,

CDU interface is working in general OK.

The problem I have is that after starting programming the CDU the device response is becoming slower and slower. In fact "normal" inputting of the data is not workable. In fact I am forced to switch to PMDG 737 VC CDU to get programming done. Once the programming is done Engravity CDU starts to respond normally again but during the flight it becomes slower and slower again.

The interesting thing is that if I input the data via VC CDU the Engravity CDU display behaves normal and the data change is seen instantly.

To make the situation manageable I purchased Virtual CDU for mu iPad using it as back-up CDU in case Engravity CDU becomes "lazy" ;-)

Now, I did use  recommended settings and tried various setting-values but unfortunately with no improvement. Many of my flying friends whoa are using Engravity CDU PMDG Interface have the similar problem.

Any idea where the problem would be and how can be solved so using the Engravity CDU would be joy again? :-)

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards,

Mladen

  • Hi,

This is the first time I've heard of the problem. When did the issue start?

    Thx

    Steve

  • ...also what flight simulator are you using?

    Thx

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,
Indeed strange that you haven't heard about this problem.
    I am using FS-X SP2 on Windows 7 64bit OS.
I am attaching two files (cdu log.txt and MLK_CDU.jpg ) for further clarification.
    Thanks for the assistance

  • I forgot to mention that the issue was present from the beginning.

  • Further search for the solution of my problem brought me to Virtual COM settings and I surprisingly noticed that the baud rate was 9600 which is lower then the baud rate in Engravity CDU and Engravity CDU PMDG Interface which is set to 38400 baud rate.

Once all baud rate values were set to the same value CDU seems to respond normally through whole flight. :-)

I asked my friends to check their settings as well....

  • Thanks for letting me know.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Steve,
    Question regarding COM Port settings...
What are the Data Bit, Parity and Stop Bit values in your interface software?
These settings can not be changed so I assume they are :

    Data Bit: 8
    Parity: None
    Stop Bits: 1

Yes, I still have the same problem but much less then before

    Thank you

    Mladen

  • Those settings are correct. Are you running the latest Firmware in your CDU?

    Thx

    Steve

  • Yes, I am running v1.03 on Engravity CDU
  • Can you give me a screen dump of the Settings tab.

    Thx

    Steve

  • In one of my first messages I attached several screenshots on which my settings are shown (see above).

OK, at what point does it start to slow down so I can attempt to recreate the problem.

    Thx

    Steve

  • Sorry for my late response to your question :-(
As soon as I load saved flight plan the CDU response time drops.
  • Can you attach the flight plan that causes the issue as I've just done a test and cannot re-create the problem.

    Thx

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,
I attached a fliht plan (EHAMLJLJ01.rte). Hopefully it will be of some use.
I suspect that the problem is in some kind of cache. CDU becomes slow in different stages of flight but mostly on the beginning when I for example select the Origin Airport.

  • Steve,
Can you tell me which Virtual Com Port software do you use and which version? Maybe URL where I can download it.

Also I would like to know which COM port number (1,2,3,4) did you select?

It must be somehow communication mismatch

    Thanks,
    Mladen

  • Hi,

I haven't installed anything special, Windows picked up the CDU device and installed it as Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge. I use Com3 @ 38400 baud with everything else at default values.

Make sure you are using USB 1/2 ports and not USB 3. Are you running anything else that might be clashing?

The flight plan isn't attached by the way.

    Thx

    Steve

  • Regarding USB 1/2 connection.... that is a good one!!!

I will check this for sure. Normally I connect all USB devices to the powered USB-HUB. But whether this HUB is connected to MoBo's USB 2 and not USB 3 port ... that is the good question.

I'll let you know as soon as I have more info.

I'll ZIP the flight plan just to be sure your forum attachment system will allow the extension.

    Thanks,

    Mladen

  • How is it possible to know which is a 2 and which is 3?
  • USB is Blue. Lol.
  • Your motherboard manual will tell you which ports are 2 and 3.
  • I believe I have found the bug and fixed it. Version 1.0.3.0 of the Interface will be downloadable in around 5 minutes. Let me know how you get on with it.

    Best wishes

    Steve
