Workflow for creating a short name

I am having trouble creating a short name for Rob's "Aerosoft Airbus A320 IAE" config so that I can use it with all the Airbuses. In an earlier thread it was indicated that this is done in the Settings tab. But I'm clearly doing something wrong for this doesn't work for me. Here's what I'm doing:

In the Settings tab, I delete "A320 IAE" from Rob's original Short Name and then press OK. I then get 2 message windows asking me to select Yes or No in each. I'm not entirely clear how to respond to these messages, but have tried several combinations and in all cases that I've tried I lose the connection to the MCP and the name reverts back to Rob's original name. At this point, to be safe I re-import Rob's config so at least I'm okay with the A320 IAE.

Could you please tell me exactly how one shortens this name. In particular, I need to know how to respond to each message that pops up after I click OK, as well as any other procedures I ought to be following.

Additionally, when I imported the config it added a "Temp" folder to my GIT folder in my Documents folder. I assume that after I've completed the import process I can delete this "Temp" folder. Am I correct?

Thanks,
Robert

  • Hi Robert,

Yes and No will do the trick unless of course you have answered differently in the past and now have potentially several aircraft names that match stored in GIT. If you have done nothing important, I would rename My Documents\GoFlight Interface Tool so you start with a clean config. Alternatively you could get a good editor like notepad++ and examine the file contents in My Documents\GoFlight Interface Tool and remove the <Aircraft> XML configs that you do not want.

    Yes you can delete Temp.

    Best wishes

  • OK, I will start from scratch. However, other than the "PMDG.xml" file that was apparently created when I first launched the program while running the PMDG 737,  I've not been getting any <Aircraft> XML configs in my My Documents\GoFlight Interface Tool folder. There must be something more I need to do after running the Import Wizard. I've gone to Settings and clicked Save but I get no apparent response. Is there something more I need to do to create these <Aircraft> XML configs? I've tried importing configs for the Airbus and the C182 and after the import neither creates an XML file in my My Documents\GoFlight Interface Tool folder.

    Thanks,
    Robert

    Hi Robert,

Import, then quit GIT. This will save the files. Then restart GIT and change the short name.

PS. The files will be BespokeEvents.xml, BespokeVars.xml and in them will be <Aircraft> sections but you need not worry about that now we know there are no files.

  • Steve, I've got it now.

    Thanks for the assistance.
