Using GIT for XP10 and P3Dv3 on the same machine

Hi,

I have been using GIT for X-Plane for a few weeks and I am very happy with it.
I would like to try GIT for P3D v3 on the same machine.

Are there any know issues or special instructions for installing both products on the same machine? For example, does installing GFConfigSetup 2.65.5 (required for P3D, but not XP10) cause any issues for an existing GIT for XP10 install?

Thank you.

Martin

  • Hi Martin,

There are no known issues. I run all 4 versions of the product on my development PC fine.

  • I just updated from GIT for XP 1.6.4 to 1.6.5 (on Win 10) and noticed a few things:

    1) With only GIT for XP installed the installer suggests a start menu name of "GoFlight Interface Tool". Anticipating that the P3D installer will suggest the same generic name, I tried changing this to "GoFlight Interface Tool XP10" during the install process. This does not seem to have made any difference. The start menu "All Apps" in Win 10 still shows "GoFlight Interface Tool" and there is no right-click menu available in Win 10 to manually change this in "All Apps". Will the P3D installer try to make the same name entry into the start menu?

    2) The XP10 installer also creates the more generic "GoFlight Interface Tool" folder inside the Documents folder to store all the xml files. Won't the P3D installer try to do the same possibly causing a problem?

    3) C:\ProgramData contains "GoFlight Interface Tool XPlane", so there is no potential name conflict for the P3D installer in this case.

    4) The desktop shortcut also has an X-Plane suffix which is ok.

I have not run the P3D installer just yet. Waiting on the answers to the questions in bold.
    Thanks.
  • Hi Martin,

    1) Odd, that has worked for me in the past. All GIT programs can exist in the same directory so no problem anyway.

    2) It will, but its not a problem as the files are called different names.

Backup My Documents\GoFlight Interface Tool if you are worried about losing settings.

  • Installation instructions state:

2a) You should choose to install the software where your Goflight drivers have been installed (where GFConfig.exe and GFDev.dll reside). If you choose to install in another directory you will need to start the Goflight Interface Tool, click the Settings tab and select the directory where the Goflight drivers exist.

I tried to keep it cleaner by installing GIT for P3D in a separate directory outside of Goflight drivers.

Now that I have started GIT for P3D, I cannot see any field in the Settings tab that I can set to point to the Goflight drivers directory.
  • That ability got pulled. All you need to do is copy GFDev.dll from the GoFlight drivers directory into your install directory.

    Best wishes
