Joysticks not working

I just finished building a new pic with win 10 pro. I installed the goflight and GFIT programs and tried to calibrate the joystick. The joystick enabled ok but when I click configure axis none of the sliders move at all and appear kind of greyed out? This is true before and after I select the sim axis to control and click the calibrate button? I know it should work because I have the exact same setup on my win 7 pc and the joysticks work fine. Is the some setting in win 10 I need to change? All the joystick axis work in the Windows game controller window. Also I can assign buttons in GFIT and they work. It is just the axis assignment and calibration that is not working. Thanks Terry

  • As an update to the above post, I was incorrect that that I was running on the same GFIT version on both the win7 and win 10 machines. I thought I had updated the win7 to the latest but I was running ver 2.4.1. I uninstalled 2.5.5 version from the win 10 pc and installed 2.4.1 and the joysticks are working properly. So Steve I think there is a bug in one of the releases after 2.4.1. Since I have the latest if you could send me the interim versions, I will test and try to nail down when the bug entered if that would help. After your vacation of course since 2.4.1 is running fine. The joysticks involved are the wharthog stick and throttle. Have a great time on your holiday! Thanks Terry
  • Hi Terry,

I've been looking into this and I think I now know what the problem is. I'll pick the issue up with you after my holiday.

  • Hi Steve Any progress on the joystick fix. Thanks Terry
  • Hi Terry,

End of the week if things go to plan.

  • Hi Steve Any revision? Thanks Terry
  • Hello Steve Is this still on the list to be fixed? Thanks Terry
  • Hi Terry,

Apologies, I thought I had replied to your previous message.

I'm hoping to get a release out this week that fixes numerous problems and has the groundwork for PMDG 747 support. Unfortunately the code has been in a constant state of development and unfit for release.

Fixes crossed for this week. Sorry for delay.

    Best wishes

  • This issue should now be resolved in 2.6.0.0

  • Hi Steve I tried it and it worked great on first try but I cleared an axis and after that the axis no longer responded even after a restart. Related maybe is that when I clicked clear axis another axis configure window opened so then I had two open. That did not used to happen. Also could not see my Vjoy virtual joystick. Thanks Terry
  • Assuming you have calibrated the joysticks in Windows, can you rename My Documents\GoFlight Interface Tool so that GIT starts clean - I just want to see if an erroneous value has entered your config.

    Thx

    Steve

  • Hi Steve I tried that and everything worked the first time as before. I cleared the axis and it continued to work but I clicked the calibrate button again because the two throttles were not in sync and it quit working again. I had also calibrated a couple of times yesterday so maybe it was the recalibration that caused the problem and not the axis clearing. There is definitely a bug in there somewhere. Thanks Terry
  • Hi Steve As a follow up I have not been able to consistently recreate the problem so I suggest you don't spend any more time on it until it happens enough to recreate. I did see another issue that is happening every time. The warthog Throttle has two Throttle levers that I am assigning to set Throttle 1and 2. They both calibrate and work but the lower limit on one is always different sometimes by a lot so I recalibrate that one and the limit comes in line but when I check the other one that limit has changed. So calibrating one axis is changing the lower limit value of a separate axis and it doesn't matter which axis is changed the other one is always affected? Wierd. Also what about recognition of the Vjoy joystick? Thanks Terry
  • The limit values are changing even if you do not click on calibrate?
  • The limit values will vary and will change. When you click calibrate the limits shown are recorded within the software and used to calculate what is sent to FSX. The limit values show what is being read in and not what you have calibrated the joystick too. If you want to check them, open up the xml file in My Documents\GoFlight Interface Tool and located the aircraft section concerned and then the joystick device and the calibrated limits will be shown (after you have quit GIT so the settings are saved).

I'm not sure about the Vjoy. Lets start with giving me the Vjoy device name as shown in your GIT log.

    Thx

    Steve

  • H Steve

So to keep the throttles in synch, I should manually edit those values to the same? In the gui if I manually change one it also chanes the other so you cannot get them to be the same?

From the log   Supp Device Found: vJoy Device

    Thanks

No Terry. You are never going to get two axes outputting exactly the same values and over time as they get worn the situation will get worse.

Make sure you have properly calibrated the axes in Windows, then go through the calibration process in GIT (http://www.pollypotsoftware.org.uk/support/user-guide/user-guide-git/19-operating/25-configuring-joystick-devices.html). If the levers differ slightly and it creates problems in the sim, you can recalibrate, but click and drag the limit sliders to add some artificial slack so they sync better.

When you hit the calibrate button the axis limits are recorded - you then ignore what is showing up on the slider subsequently and for different axes - only the axis shown has its calibration settings set when Calibrate is clicked.

  • Hi Steve I missed this point When you hit the calibrate button the axis limits are recorded I thought you could change them after the calibration. They a working as they should now. Not one of my better days. Terry
  • No worries. I'll come back to you on the vJoy as I made need you to test out a few things before we solve it.

  • Hi Steve Any luck on the Vjoy issue? Thanks Terry
  • Hi Terry,

Can you copy and paste from the log everything listed about the Vjoy.

    Thx

    Steve

  • Hi Steve

This is all there is in the log   "Supp Device Found: vJoy Device"

It is recognized in the windows game controller window and by P3D?

    Thanks
    Terry
  • Ok thanks, I'll review the code tomorrow and see what is breaking in Windows 10.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Hello Steve Any luck? Thanks Terry
  • No. I can't find what is wrong. It did work in the previous Windows versions?

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • No it doesn't work in win 7 either. I think GFIT should pickup all game controller recognized by Windows
  • Hi Steve

Something wired going on with posting from my iPad again?
I think the Vjoy is available for a trial. Could you install it and see if your setup sees it? In the post above that got cut off I was saying that I think the joystick recognition part of GFIT should pickup any device recognized by windows in the game controller setting. I have a program for my Saitek gear that sees it so I know it should be there?

    Thanks
    Terry

  • Hi Terry,

That will help a lot if I can install the software. I'll try it.

In theory GIT should, but I have had to code detection of devices to certain ones as it was incorrectly picking up wrong devices and thus crashing GIT for some people.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Hi Steve

I think that may have been more to do with a user problem than GFIT? Do you have an example of a device that causes problems? I would like to play around with it.

    Thanks
    Terry
  • Hi Terry,

I think I must have the wrong vJoy website as I have just tried GIT with this and it works fine: http://vjoystick.sourceforge.net/site/index.php/download-a-install/download

Can you let me know what you are using.

    Thx

    Steve

  • Hi Steve
That is it? So you see a Vjoy joystick in the drop down lists after enabling joysticks in GFIT?

I downloaded the file vjoySetup.exe and I did not download the sdk. After install I used configure Vjoy to enable it and setup one virtual stick.

I see the stick in windows but it does not show in the GFIT device drop down lists under the joystick tab?

Do you have any limit on the number of joysticks? I have 8 showing.

I was not on the latest ver of GFIT but I updated and no change?

    Thanks
    Terry
