Navdata tools dysfunction

Hello, I bought yesterday NavData tools and installed it on my PC (W7 64bits + P3D V3.4 + PMDG 737NGX)
I indicated in settings I'm using PD3 V3.4 and indicated the path where P3D is installed, when I run sim scenery update, The software scans the files for more than 3 hours and nothing happens. Can you tell me how to deal with this problem ?
Thanks

  • Hi,

It will take a long time to complete. At one point does it get stuck? Do you get an error message?

    Thx

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,
Yes it get stuck scanning files (1500 files scan running). But no error message
I stopped it after more then 3 hours scanning. !!!

  • That odd. Did it stay stuck at 1500 files for 3 hours? Can you confirm you are running the Sim Scenery Update and not the Sim Scenery Area Update?

If yes to both of those questions, can you disable all your add-on scenery and see if it works?

    Thanks

    Steve

  • It's been 5 hours that the software scan the files !!! Is this normal ?? When I change the path in settings and I tell it the scenery directory of P3D it finds all the files (ILS entries, waypoints etc ...) but when I run a search of an airport by typing its ICAO code, it does not Nothing happens
  • Yes to both of those questions.
I also disable all my add-on scenery iN P3D and it still scanning files (1500) !!!

  • Here is a screenshot of what happens when I run sim scenery update
  • I'm wondering if v3.4 of P3D has added something that is breaking the software. I will run some tests and come back to you tomorrow.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Hi Steve ,
Any solution for my problem ?? I have no news about you.

    Jacques
  • See comment above!

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Ok Steve I look forward to a solution. Thanks

  • Hi Jacques,

My initial testing has found that the stall can be caused by having Prepar3D running whilst doing the database update. Can you confirm if it still stalls when P3D is not running?

    Thanks

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,
I confirm that P3D is not running during the database update.
Database Update Yes get stuck scanning files (1500 files scan running), and no error message.

  • OK, I'll look into further.

    Thx

    Steve

  • Just had a thought, can you run the NavData Tool as Administrator so we can eliminate any security issues.

    Thx

    Steve

  • I had already done it as an administrator, but it is the same result.

It should be remembered that when I indicate IN SETTINGS the P3D directory "SCENERY" and NOT the P3D MAIN DIRECTORY, the software seems to find 10069 files but not ENTRIES. Once done no map is displayed and no airport is active. Can this help you?
  • OK. Point the Settings directory to SCENERY, save the settings and run the Sim Scenery Update. When complete, Point the Settings directory back to P3D MAIN, save the settings and then run the Sim Scenery Area Update. This should now work OK.

It looks like a file somewhere in your P3D setup is causing a problem. The above should provide a  workaround until I write some debug code to track down the file causing the issue.

Let me know how you get on.

    Thx

    Steve

  • Ok Steve, I proceeded as you tell me, and now everything works correctly. Thanks for your help.

    Jacques

  • The database is created, and when I type the ICAO code of an airport, I get a map with an airplane over the take-off but I can not do anything else. I try to read the instructions for use, but I do not understand what to do to use the software. Can you help me ?

Is there a video explaining how the program works?
  • It is a complex tool. You will have to read all the instructions here: http://pollypotsoftware.org.uk/support/user-guide/nav-data-tool/23-operating.html

I recommend importing (do not load) one of the examples and follow the data through.

  • OK Steve
Now I understand how the software works. It takes patience to complete a flight plan. I have two other questions: 1. Why can not the Nav Data tool window be enlarged? 2. How do I print a flight plan ?

    Thanks
  • 1) You can't. You can zoom in though.

    2) Why would you want that - surely you would use the chart you are copying from?

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Bad news for the enlargement of the window !!
and yes I need to have the chart in paper version to follow a flight. Can I print it ?

    Best wishes
