X-Plane 11 and GIT feedback

So I've spent a little bit tinkering with the XP11 beta:

GIT works fine as expected as well as my profiles for payware aircrafts

The problem I'm having is with the new default aircraft.

While the old stock datarefs do partially work they don't fully work(for instance A/T arm may work, the animation and light in the VC don't)

I need to use the new Laminar datarefs for their respective aircrafts but they ALL seem to be write protected or GIT can't manipulate them. I can't even get the commands to work. I've also tried with Dataref tool and Dataref editor to no avail.

I know it's beta but I have a sinking feeling someone at Laminar will just end up leaving all the datarefs for the default aircrafts on lockdown.

Again I'm not 100% sure it's a XP11 or GIT problem but intuition says it's a Laminar problem, not sure if I should file a bug report over there or not.

  • quick warning, don't have GIT running if you have XP11 generate the aircraft icons for the selection screen.

  • Hello Slayer,

I thought I would tag this onto your forum post versus creating another one.  I'm brand new to X-Plane, but have many years with MSFS and over a decade of experience with GoFlight Hardware.  I own about a dozen modules.

I have the purchased version of XP11 beta.  I fully understand it is beta.  I was going to partially make the switch from FSX/P3D to XP10, but really hated the UI and I decided against it.  But XP11 is really looking nice.

Anyway....cutting to the chase.  I don't presently own the GIT software for XP.  But as it is currently written, will it work with XP11 and the default aircraft?

I'm easing into XP and most likely will pickup some payware aircraft at some point.  My favorite on the P3D side of course is the PMDG 737.  So will be looking at what is similar on the XP side at some point.

Anyway, thank you for your time.

    Jerry
  • For the most part yes, it will work with most defaults but you will find cases where a dev has diverted from stock datarefs so custom work is needed. This is the only program that will let you use your Goflight hardware in Xplane without limitations.

I recommend for you to give the x737 a shot, it's freeware although you do need to pay for the FMC program if you don't want a basic one.

Right now I've been working on making profiles for the new XP11 747,737 and MD82 defaults but have been running into snags. I've been in Contact with Ben at Laminar as to why some of the variables are on lockdown and don't allow writing to but i don't think they get it :(

Seems like they assume everyone is using a joystick with a momentary pushbutton instead of real hardware switches or rotaries etc.

But it's still beta , I will keep beating them up on this until they unlock the datarefs i need to make it happen.

  • Thank you Steve.  I will purchase the GIT and grab the x737 and give it a shot.
  • Hi Steve,

Ok, I purchased the GIT for XP, I installed it and also updated my GF drivers to version 2.26.5.

When the GIT for XP starts up I can't click on Import or Detective.  The buttons are greyed out.
I'm unsure what to do next.  I wanted to add the setup for the EADT x737

The Sim has to be running and aircraft loaded that you want the profile for that function to work. You should try to use the import wizard
    Steve McNitt
  • Hi Steve,

The Import Wizard is also greyed out.

So here's what I'm doing.  I have XP11 (owned copy), I have XPUIPC ver. 2.0.0.0 64bit installed.  I have the EADT x737 installed and I can select it and load it.  I also have the GIT installed and it is showing as version 1.7.1.0

On the status page of the GIT, it shows a green light for GoFlight, but showing red for both XP and Aircraft.  The Log is showing a recurring error reading GIP: Pipe Connect Failed.

I'm probably missing something stupid, but I'm brand new to the XP world.

  • Hi Jerry,

It sounds like the GIT plugin is not running. The installation program has not been updated to detect XP11 so it probably has not installed it (you should have been prompted to confirm its location during installation). Check the resources\plugins directory and see if you can see a GIT plugin directory which should contain subdirectories with .xpl files.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

I don't recall getting a prompt.  I'm at work now, but will check this afternoon.  Assuming there is nothing listed in the plugins directory....what is my next step?  is there a manual process for doing this?
  • Yes, I can send you the plugin and you can copy and paste it into the correct directory.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Yeah I forgot to mention I manually copied the plugin over from my XP10, fairly simple.
    Steve McNitt
  • Ok, well GIT is working.  Meaning I have three green lights and my GF-MCP Pro lights up.  But it's not working.  I did perform the import wizard option and imported the entire .zip file.  But again it's not working.

    Grrrrrr

    Any ideas?
  • By the way, I installed version 2.26 Build 4 of the GFConfig.  However, this does not appear to reference XPlane at all.  Is there a separate version of GFConfig I need for XP?

By the way, all my GF hardware works fine in P3D and GIT for PMDG

GF config isn't used at all for X-Plane, did you enable your controls in the GIT program?

I believe they must be enabled first then do the wizard

    Steve McNitt
  • Yes, when I did the import wizard process I enabled the only two controls which were allowed (the MCP Pro and the EFIS).  But they still don't work.

The MCP-Pro lights up, but when adjusting any of the controls they don't register in the x737 v5.  The EFIS is also not working.

  • I had the same issue importing the GIT Interface to XP11.

JTaylor801 may be confused with selecting the MCP-Pro & EFIS in the Import Wizard as opposed to enabling them in the GoFlight Interface Tool? In the GIT there are tabs for MCPPRO and EFIS. Clicking on each of those tabs and selecting "Device 0" in the drop down box will allow for that device to be set as enabled or disabled.......choose enabled, for both MCP-Pro and your EFIS. Then return to the status tab and perform the import wizard.

Hope this helps or apologise for sticking my butt in.... :-)

BTW JTaylor, if your after a good 737 , better than PMDG quality in my view (being a long term PMDG user), try the IXEG 737. It's expensive, but does work in XP11.

    Cheers

  • I have a similar problem trying to use GIT on XP11.  The installer refused to install because it could not find x-plane_install_10.txt.  I "creatively cheated" and made a copy of my x-plane_install_11.txt and renamed it -10.  The installer ran, but obviously did not install the plugin so I have the"Pipe Connect Failed" error.  What did I do wrong?

    Cheers,

    Antonio
  • just make a fake x-plane 10 folder and install it there then copy it over to xp11
    Steve McNitt
  • I am running X-Plane 11 beta too and purchased the Goflight Interface  Tool for X-Plane  today and am running into many of the same issues.I know 11 is still in beta but  I would  like to avoid having to do a complete XPlane 10 install because I have 11 working working really well and dont want to do anything to break it so a workaround would be really appreciated.

Anyway I got past the missing x-plane 10 install.txt issue but then I get the Pipe connect failed error. The tool runs and shows my three hardware modules but when I launch XPlane 11 there is no plugin listed.   I tred running install with the fake x-plane 10 folder but its empty. My understanding is I need rthe GIT plugin but I cant find it anywhere.  Any help would be appreciated.I love my GoFlight hardware and would really like to bring it with me to X-plane  .

    Thanks Mark

    Guys,

An X-Plane 11 compatible version of GIT will be released shortly.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Is there a GIT Profile that is compatile yet with XPlane 11?  The fake XP10 folder, where is that installed?
  • The profiles I made for XP10 aircraft work in 11 but if you only have 11 installed there are issues getting the plugin to install properly until a new version of GIT is released. If you have it installed in 10 you can just copy it over to your resources/plugins and it works in 11 for the most part as well.

Working great so far except for the new default MD80 and 747, they got the datarefs still locked down. Ben told me that if they made a command available, then they lock the datarefs down....I don't get that logic at all, it screws people with home cockpits. Great if you use a joystick with momentary push buttons, garbage if you have a real MCP with real switches spitting out a 0 or 1...or a rotary that needs to send a dataref a 1 2 3 4 5 6 for each position. He can't seem to understand it.

How hard is it to unset the write protect bit on their datarefs :/

All the payware devs seem to understand this but Laminar doesn't, go figure...

  • If anyone else is reading this thread and just getting into programming the new default aircraft, You will have to generate your own commands.txt as they aren't included.

The fastest way I've found to sniff them out  -  If you assign a command in XP 11 to a joystick button then hold your mouse over it , it will reveal the command. not as quick as the old XP10 interface where I could just copy them  :/
