Problem with Duel GF166's
Hi,
I currently have the GF MCP/EFIS (they work no problem) and decided to add two GF 166's. One for comm's and one for nav's. I am having problems getting both of them working. I have made sure both devices are enabled and have downloaded the profiles for the IXEG 737 through the website. After loading X-Plane the MPC/EFIS come to life but not the duel 166 units. Periodically one or the other comes to life but rarely both at the same time. I am currently running 1.9.2.1 GF interface tool.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks!
Ken

I have dual GF-166 units set up for Com/Nav and I've experienced issues with them also, although not to the extent that you are having.
One thing to check first would be that GIT is recognising 2 units. What is displayed on the status page for GF-166? Might indicate USB connection issues. (USB 2.0 ports)
I have issues on GIT shutdown. The units are not shutdown properly and are left with partial lights illuminated (not always the same lights) and it doesn't happen all the time. The units affected will not start up properly the next time GIT is started. The only way to fix this (at the moment) is to unplug the device and plug it in again and then start GIT.
I'm not sure whether this is a GIT problem in that it doesn't clean up everything during termination or a hardware problem.
Hopefully if Steve reads this he may be able to shed some more light.

Yes both units are plugged into their own USB 2.0 ports directly on the PC. GIT Recognizes both devices as 0 and 1 in the 166 tab. Seems if I unplug one of the devices the other will work after some plugging/unplugging and restarting GIT.
I also have the issues on shutdown same as you.
Thanks
You can also increase the Cmd and Write delays on the Settings tab of GIT as this will help with them not locking up.
Best wishes
Steve
I would try increasing the CMD/Write sliders first but splashing out on new hubs.
Goflights "readme.txt" file in their drivers has some info on compatible hubs, but I think this is fairly old now. Also interesting in the readme is that they talk about the freezing issue and say that if your hardware is old, use USB 1.1 to stop it locking up.
Best wishes
Steve
Thanks for the suggestions. I purchased 3 separate powered usb 2.0, 2.5A by Plugable, and the both comm and navs are now working flawlessly.
Still working at getting the GF46 up and running. When I plug that one in it brings down one of the GF166 devices. And still doesn't function without freezing. Will have to try a little more trial and error to see if I can figure it out.
Thanks again, so happy the 166's are now working!
Ken
Ken, I'm glad it's solved one of your problems. Have had trouble sourcing a new USB 2.0 hub from local shops where I am in Australia, so I've ordered it online from the US. Take about 1-2 weeks to get here. I'm hoping to have the same results as yourself. (Ordered the same ones).

They still are a little figity at startup, but 100% better then without them. Before starting GIT make sure the 166 are dark (nothing in the display). If there is something displaying, unplug and replug before starting up. Once started and working I have had no problems.
