GF46: Frozen??

Re: Pmdg 737

Recently, I had to wipe files when I upgraded to W10.

Reinstalled current GF Config and GIT.

I set up my 46 with "No Selection" and "Compatible Addon."

The GIT Option page shows Transdcr and 7 other presets.
But when I go to the GF46 tab in GIT to Enable it, the display freezes....flashes dashes...or sometimes just goes dark.

The unit is plugged directly into computer.

Thanks for your help.

Doug

  • I've recently had plenty of problems with mine. In fact, so far I haven't even gotten it to fully function. I can get it to display my transponder data and it updates when I change the transponder code directly in the simulator, just not the other away around.

I've found that as long as it's not on the same powered USB port as the rest of my components it won't freeze.

It could be that despite being plugged directly in to your machine, the PC itself still doesn't provide an appropriate amount of power. I'd recommend attaching a powered USB hub and see how that works. That's what I've had to do since I currently can't run both the 46 and the166 at the same time on one powered USB hub.

  • Hi Doug,

There are numerous threads on the forum discussing the many possible solutions to GF46 and GF166 lock ups such as separate hubs, disabling power management for the hubs and GF devices in windows, USB BIOS settings etc. Do a search of the forum and try the things suggested in those discussions.

This is a GoFlight hardware issue, not a GIT issue as I have had the same issues using GoFlight drivers since the year 2008 before I had even written GIT.

    Best wishes

  • Steve, it might be a good idea to compile these issues from these different threads into a pinned thread at the top of the forum. I have had many issues with this module myself and hunting for old threads has proven timely and confusing for me.

  • Pulling together the different threads on the topic is a great idea---yes, I did search, then came here. Thanks, Steve

pccoder: I have another powered adapter that I will activate and then assign the 46 to it as a stand alone.

The PC has a 600 watt power supply running a GTX 1060 and 970; maybe the two cards are causing fluctuation in voltage to the 46.
  • I will once I get some time!

Timeline: I don't recall this issue with the 46 before I upgraded from W7. In fact, it was plugged into a 7-port, powered hub.

  • It's probably a windows 10 config issue then - probably power management on the hubs and devices is enabled.

  • Thanks, Steve, I'll look at the settings and give an update to this post.
  • I played last night and turned off power management to every single USB device on my Windows 10 pc and they would all stay on at the same time, and that was on the same HUB. GF46 started responding (sort of) so I should have it all done today. ;) Finally some positive results.

Chris for all of us newbies to power management, here"s a link how-to link to disabling it in our USBs. Now, I will check to see if this works!

  • Thanks Doug. See my recent post where I finally resolved my GF46 issues. I had to disable all my USB devices from windows power management. It’s a simple task by removing the check box on the power options for each USB device. It’s a manual process but ultimately a simple fix.

I’ll probably create a regex batch file to quickly update the registry in the future in case Windows decides to revert the selections thru a Windows update.

  • Chris, I did exactly that but with the GF 46 plugged into the PC vs the Hub, the display shows rotatable numbers on the right with a blank display on the left: No selections...just dark display.

    Doug
  • On the GIT tabs: Under 460 ...aren't the Options set by default? Or do I have to set each Rotary Event...etc.?
  • On the 46O you're only selecting the variable associated with the actual value, I.e. transponder code, and adding a function name.
