GoFlight sold to new owners?

Steve, are you the new owner or part owner?

Hoping the new owners are for the better and wondering if any impact to GIT or GFConfig in the future?

Cheers, Rob.

  • Full announcement from Go Flight:

As of January 15, 2019, GoFlight Technologies has sold to a new owner. The decision to sell the company was not an easy one. The past eight years have been wonderful and I will relish the relationships made and the adventures flight simulation offered. Ultimately, the decision to sell the company came from the need to reallocate personnel and resources to other companies and assets underneath the ownership group.

As many of you may have noticed the low inventory levels and wondered what might be going on with GoFlight Technologies. Rumors surfaced of shutting doors. Our plan was to always support our customers.

In early 2018, a long time vendor approached us with an offer to buy the company. GoFlight had been listed on the open market for a brief period, which generated a lot of interest but no potential buyers with experience in our industry. The new owner has worked with GoFlight on various projects and bring with them years of experience in electrical and mechanical engineering, and firmware development for HID devices. It was important that we find a buyer who had experience in flight simulation or similar consumer electronics and we believe this is an excellent fit.

The new owner is committed to restocking current inventory and embarking on exciting new products and projects that will upgrade the level of service GoFlight has offered in the past. A brief period of transition is expected where they get up to speed. I have agreed to stay on in some capacity to help with a smooth transition. You should expect to see inventory levels remain, and better support as they are bringing dedicated personnel to assist in those areas.

Thank you for your patience while we complete this transition.

    Sincerely,

    Tony Varela

  • Hi Rob,

Like everyone else, I thought GoFlight was going under. I was not aware it was being sold as GoFlight have been very distant for some time. I'm very glad about this outcome. This new owner sounds like he/she has the potential to fix everything that has been so wrong for so long.

As for GIT, it has a very bright future. I'm finishing off the Flight Sim Virtual Hardware software which has taken longer then planned as I have completely rewritten the dll and built new server software instead of attempting to shoe horn into the old GIT code. Once this is complete, GIT will be moved into this new code base and so it will have a graphical user interface using the new Snippet tech I have built allowing novice users to click and drag pre built configs onto switches, buttons and LED's etc.

These pictures are pre Alpha, but you will get the idea:

    Hi Steve,

Wow, very nice ... looking forward to trying that out. Do you happen to know who the new owners are?

I've got some Google Tablets/panels just waiting for these new virtual controls. Just think of the possibilities, emulate the real aircraft panels visually and all touch support, no more need for making labels or using pre-defined magnets.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Hi Rob,

I don't know. I'll attempt to reach out and find out.

Although the initial release won't do it, I have built in the hooks to do virtual gauges as well, so it should all get very interesting!!

    Best wishes

  • Will this software allow GOFLIGHT users to use their modules on outside flight sims such as IL2, DCS, and War Thunder? I have had the LGT-II fora year now, and I have still not been able to get the module detected on the key mapper to use with any of the simulators listed. Anything would help. Thank you.

Sounds like you need to get the application handle ... i.e. FindWindowEx(Null, Null, "DCS", Null) ... making assumption "DCS" is the window class name, if there are multiples then replace Null with windows "title". However, the issue is that SendInput (or SendMessage or PostMessage) only works on the window with the current focus. So on any input, one would have to search for the window, set it to have focus, and then send the key. Unfortunately setting "focus" can bring about other issues.

The most reliable way for sending keys to the correct application is to have a hook into that application. The issue is one of security and I think XP (Windows XP) we could send key input to a specific Window handle from an "outside" process, but that got removed in Win7 onwards. So those applications you mention IL2, DCS, War Thunder would need to provide the ability to hook into them OR go the less reliable route of setting focus.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Ill be honest, what you are saying is foreign to me. Im not a programmer, but I am really thinking about taking on the challenge or hire someone to do it. What about the Keymapper Goflight created? My module isn't detected using it. My module is connected with GFconfig, But GFkeys says that i have no modules connected. If i was able to figure out how to get GFkeys to detect my module, would that be the solution? If it is, then any chance you can help me with getting GFkeys to detect my module? Im using the LGT-II.
  • I'm really glad to hear this. I purchased about $1,000 worth of GoFlight modules right before Xmas only to find that they went dark as soon as I got everything. I was under the impression that their customer support was just lousy. I am glad to know that I may actually get some worthwhile help from the new owners. Honestly what they need to focus on first is new firmware. I work as a software developer for a hardware company and can assure you this is not that hard for experienced firmware developers. I was actually about to take my GF-46 to our firmware guy and see what he can do with it. Here's hoping it gets better.

  • Hi.
Today my GF MCP and EFIS suddenly stop working, all I can see is a message that tells me there is a new version available. Does anyone know if this is due to the change of owners of GF ?
  • I'm getting same thing and wondering the same , but i just hit the x and the banner goes away and everything still works - so far any way . My version is 3.6.3.1 and i'm always a little leary and just going and up date a lot of this stuff cause every thing is working fine then you update and every thing falls apart . If the update is for P3D well i'm not gonna put it in cause i'm running just FSX . I sure hope the new owners do some thing so we can program switches for the Captain Sim 757- 200 111, cause i don't fly it .When you hardly use the mouse for any thing at all you then have an aircraft that you have to use the mouse for every thing its hard to used to so i just don't fly it.. I'' keep checking here to see you make out . Glad they sold out cause if it wouldn't be for Steve here we'd have no support at all - Louis

  • GoFlight was sold to the new owners pre Covid-19. The new owner had some health issues after being forced to temporally close the GoFlight premises due to Covid-19 restrictions. The premises never re-opened.

I have no idea what he intends to do going forward. I know the website domain name has been renewed so perhaps the intention is to re-open, but who knows?!

    Best wishes
    Steve
  • Steve, that’s interesting. Why renew the domain if the company isn’t going to reopen. And what happened to all that unsold kit? I bought my units 20 years ago this autumn and they continue to work very well.

The alternatives from Saitek / Logitech are nowhere near the quality of GoFlight. Fingers crossed! :)
