When is the user.config saved?
Hi Steve
Could you please tell me when then user.config is saved?
I am having problems with GFIT 2.0.304.0 and have had to do a restart of it and each time it has thrown my PMDG switch settings away and I've had to start from scratch :-(. I've check my user.config and my settings have not been saved there. Am I doing something wrong or is there some way I can force it to save my hard fought work to the config file?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
Your conifg hasn't been lost. If you go towards the back of the Goflight PMDG Interface user guide it tells you how to copy and paste your settings over.
Best wishes
Steve
Hi Steve
Yes, I know and I checked there but the settings I created are not there either.
PMDG 1.0.42.0 user.config dated 27.02.13 doesn't contain them
GFIT 2.0.304.0 user.config dated 01.03.13 doesn't contain them
It looks to me like the work I've done this evening hasn't been saved at all. So I'm wondering at which point the settings are saved from the interface back to the user.config so I can perhaps work more dilligently.
Chris
Hi Chris,
A few things:
Duplicate event ID's are absolutely nothing to worry about and can be ignored.
The settings are saved:
Thus restarting the interface without doing any of the above will wipe your settings. Something I need to address I think!

I wouldn't automatically blame your self for problems. GIT is Beta code and issues are turning up all the while. Sadly with so few people feeding back, the beta process is taking a long time to complete.
There may be a bug between transferring settings between the PMDG Interface and GIT. I tested it with version 1.1 but noticed you used 1.0.42.0. Can you attach your PMDG Interface config file for me to look at please.
Best wishes
Steve
G'day Steve
Both my config files as they are at 1355z 02MAR13 attached.
If you could work into the GIT restart routine a save sub-routine that might be beneficial, however, I would find it useful and reassuring if on each module tab there was a "save settings" button. So for example when I've configured a switch or several switches on a T8 module I have a choice right then and there to save my work for my own peace of mind.
I will certainly support your Beta Testing as best I can.
Cheers
Chris
Hi Chris,
Thanks but they both contain no config data. I know the PMDG Interface is stable as no one has reported any problems with settings not being saved. Are you sure you had something saved in PMDG Interface?
Thx
Steve
Hi Steve
If I save and open the attachements I see the config data .... but it's quite old
Do I need the PMDG Interface still? Or am I about to confuse myself .... at the moment when I use the PMDG and configure anything in the GIT it's saved in my GIT user.config. Nothing is saved into the PMDG user.config vv nothing is used from this config. As of today I am working quite happily in the GIT and dilligently saving all my work manually on the settings tab. Everything is working fine between the PMDG and the GF Modules.
Chris
Hi Chris,
The structure of the data files is present, but there is no config data in them i.e. your settings.
You can get rid of the PMDG Interface as GIT is the replacement.
Best wishes
Steve
But this bit here is one of my settings isn't it?
-<setting serializeAs="String" name="GFP8ConfigData"><value><?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><Devices Type="GFDEVHWTYPE_GFP8" Qty="1" Clusters="1"><Device ID="0" DeviceState="ENABLED"><Cluster ID="0" Controls="8"><Control ID="0" EVENTType="NGXEvent" EVENT="EVT_MASTER_CAUTION_LIGHT_LEFT" ACTIONType="EventCmd" ACTION="MOUSELEFT" LIGHTType="NGXData" LIGHT="DATA_WARN_SWITCH_MASTER_CAUTION_LEFT" LIGHTACTIONType="LightCmd" LIGHTACTION="ON" LIGHTVALUEType="Int" LIGHTVALUE="1" /><Control ID="1" /><Control ID="2" /><Control ID="3" /><Control ID="4" /><Control ID="5" /><Control ID="6" /><Control ID="7" /></Cluster></Device></Devices></value></setting>
Anyway, the problem must have been that I was restarting the interface before having saved my work. I now know to do that manually via the settings tab. I'll delete the PMDG folder. Problem solved.
Many thanks for the help.
Chris
Hi Chris,
Yes , but nothing like that is in the attached configs you posted.
Best wishes
Steve
Hi Steve
Very strange ... I copied and pasted from the attachment that is on the original post :-B ... never mind time to go flying
Cheers
Chris
Just in case it helps with any Forum-related issues, Steve, I can confirm that BOTH the config files which Chris uploaded do indeed contain valid config data! One is GIT format that I know and love; the other is for the PMDG which I'm not familiar with, but can fathom enough to know that there is definitely some assigment-data there, for GFP8 and GFT8 sections.
I'm wondering whether you're having attachment download issues, maybe Steve?
(and for ref, the two section of value in the GIT file are as follows:
<setting name="GFP8ConfigData" serializeAs="String">
<value><?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><Devices Type="GFDEVHWTYPE_GFP8" Qty="1" Clusters="1"><Device ID="0" DeviceState="ENABLED"><Cluster ID="0" Controls="8"><Control ID="0" EVENTType="NGXEvent" EVENT="EVT_MASTER_CAUTION_LIGHT_LEFT" ACTIONType="EventCmd" ACTION="MOUSELEFT" LIGHTType="NGXData" LIGHT="DATA_WARN_SWITCH_MASTER_CAUTION_LEFT" LIGHTACTIONType="LightCmd" LIGHTACTION="ON" LIGHTVALUEType="Int" LIGHTVALUE="1" /><Control ID="1" /><Control ID="2" /><Control ID="3" /><Control ID="4" /><Control ID="5" /><Control ID="6" /><Control ID="7" /></Cluster></Device></Devices></value>
</setting>
<setting name="GFT8ConfigData" serializeAs="String">
<value><?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><Devices Type="GFDEVHWTYPE_GFT8" Qty="1" Clusters="1"><Device ID="0" DeviceState="ENABLED"><Cluster ID="0" Controls="8"><Control ID="0" EVENTType="NGXEvent" EVENT="EVT_CONTROL_STAND_PARK_BRAKE_LEVER" ACTIONType="EventCmd" ACTION="ONOFF_REVERSED" LIGHTType="NGXData" LIGHT="DATA_CTLSTD_LIGHT_PARKING_BRAKE" LIGHTACTIONType="LightCmd" LIGHTACTION="ON" LIGHTVALUEType="Int" LIGHTVALUE="1" /><Control ID="1" /><Control ID="2" /><Control ID="3" /><Control ID="4" /><Control ID="5" /><Control ID="6" /><Control ID="7" /></Cluster></Device></Devices></value>
