PMDG 747 - looking for config suggestions

Hi,

Ive just bought this aircraft for P3Dv5, and Im after suggestions on which functions you have mapped to your GoFlight devices.

MCP PRO and EFIS are a given (plus GF166 radios), but Im keen to learn what everyone else has decided to map.

I have:
3 x T8
3 x P8
2 x RP48
1 x MESM
1 x SECM
1 x LGT2
1 x WP6

I'm used to programming the devices for Airbus, so this will be the first time Im attempting to select and program key Boeing controls.

  • I used to have everything mapped that I would use for FS2Crew flight. Just follow the processes and write down what you click in the sim - makes it more realistic and easier.

    Best wishes

  • Hi David.
Other than Steve's suggestion, this is what I do.
    My GoFlight modules set up:
    3 x T8-2
    2 x RP48
    LGT II
    TQ6
    EFIS
    MCP PRO
    GF-45
    GF-46

The last one, the GF-46, has basically died. It teases me sometimes with lights flashing here and there, but it doesn't work. I am thinking of replacing it with a GF-166, but delivery is uncertain at this time, because of the pandemic, so I will wait.

The GF-45, had also "died". But the last update to GFIT (3.8), has revived it and I use it for TCAS, COM and NAV setting.

The settings that I will list, are for the 747-400. The -8, has several functions that operate with different controls. For example, packs are controlled with push buttons and not rotaries. The EFIS range rotary, works totally differently than in the -400. The same with the TCAS rotary. So, while most of the functions programmed can be used for both models, some can't.

Two T8-2's, are used for fuel panels.
    The first:
    XFEED 1
    CTR L
    CTR R
    XFEED 4
    OVRD 2 FWD
    OVRD2 AFT
    OVRD3 FWD
    OVRD3 AFT

I haven't really used the last four switches very much, even in long transatlantic flights. So I will be reprogramming them for something else.
    Fuel pumps on the second:
    MAIN1 FWD
    MAIN1 AFT
    MAIN2 FWD
    MAIN2 AFT
    MAIN3 FWD
    MAIN3 AFT
    MAIN4 FWD
    MAIN4 AFT

The third T8-2 is used for lights panel:
    OUT1
    OUT2
    INB1
    INB2
    TAXI
    BCN
    STRB
    STORM in overhead

    First RP48
    Rotaries:
    PANEL LIGHTS
    FLOOD LIGHTS
    AUTO BRK
    TCAS
    push buttons:
    TOGA
    PANEL WARNING LIGHT
    TRFR COM1
    TRFR COM2
    FUEL1
    FUEL2
    FUEL3
    FUEL4

    Second RP48
    Rotaries:
    APU STRT
    PAK L
    PAK C
    PAK R
    Push buttons:
GF-45 (I use this button to cycle between TCAS, COM1 ACT, COM1 STBY, COM2 ACT, COM2 STBY, NAV1 STBY and NAV2 STBY)
    Blank
    ET (in clock)
    TFC (the EFIS button)
    ENG STRT1
    ENG STRT 2
    ENG STRT 3
    ENG STRT 4

I have owned and I own every aircraft that PMDG has released, so I use my set up for the B737 and B777 as well. Obviously the programming for those aircraft is different.

We have one of those DYMO label makers, and I have made different coloured labels (with the smallest font!) for each aircraft and every button and rotary, is identified accordingly.

As I am sure you know, within some time you get used to the set up for each aircraft and you almost don't have to look for the button/rotary you need.

    Enjoy!
    And take care!
    Regards,
    Roberto

  • Hi Roberto,

That info is fantastic, and exactly what I was after.

Regarding labels, Ive been trying to think of a fast efficient way to label all the controls, but at the same time, make it very easy to switch/replace in 1 go per panel, instead of having to replace each label one button at a time.

Ive got some ideas but I need more research to see if its possible.

Great thread, guys. In addition I use buttons for the selections on this part of the panel (can't remember what it's called) to switch screens on the lower EICAS display. Very useful on a flight.
