GF MCP PRO - PMDG 737, Windows 10 - Faulty unit or an interface problem?

Hi,

I have just purchased a brand new GF MCP PRO, and configured everything according to installation guides but:
- when I press the APP button VOR LOC, ALT HOLD and A/T Arm buttons light up
- when I press A/T Arm the VOR LOC button lights up
- when I press V/S button the LNAV button lights up
- The VC cockpit does not mirror these symtoms (i.e. the lights stay off on the VC MCP)

I had previously been running the old GF MCP Advance Autopilot with no problems, so I kind of expected the MCP Pro to work as well.

I have:
uninstalled and reinstalled the GoFlight software
uninstalled and reinstalled GFIT
Even though the displays work perfectly I have run Windows8 Fixer anyway
Tried a USB 1.1 card

It just seems like all the commands are getting screwed up within the GF module. I have even tried using SPADNEXT to prove that it is not a Pollypots or Goflight config issue and the same problem occurs, so I can only conclude I have a faulty unit.

Just wondering if I have missed anything here before sending the unit back? I hope someone can help me here?

  • Update:
    I have now just plugged the USB cable in without loading any drivers or FSX (basically just powering it up) and the same symptoms occurs:
    - press the APP button VOR LOC, ALT HOLD and A/T Arm buttons light up
    - press A/T Arm the VOR LOC button lights up
    - press V/S button the LNAV button lights up
    This is exactly the same as what happens if I load FSX and the goflight config tool and pollypots interface. So the loading of the software makes no difference. It must be a hardware fault then?

    When I acquired my MCP PRO I had to send it to the US for the firmware to be updated to A25. That is the minimum firmware version for it to work okay with FSX and P3D. If you unplug the USB lead and plug it back in the firmware version is displayed briefly.

    Thanks Steve, That's very helpful. I ran that and got all kinds of errors (see attached) so I have sent off my report to Aerosoft.

    Thank you for your help. That's interesting as the firmware showed up as A25 on the panel, however the test software shows "Unit1 FW v2.00" so I am not quite sure what's going on there.
  • Hi Mark. I don’t know the significance of that software version but unless Aerosoft can give a plausible explanation for the errors a swap would appear to be in order.

    Just an update to close this off. Aerosoft acknowledged the unit was faulty and sent me another one, however the replacement was also faulty and I opted for a refund, which they did with no problem. With no more in stock I searched around and bought what appears to be the last remaining one in the world from Flightsim Webshop, but unfortunately that was faulty too, this time with the Speed and N1 switch Leds not working! The Go Flight test program was very useful indeed in fault-finding all the issues, so thanks again for that. Anyway, it seems that no one has stock anymore and GoFlight is unresponsive to all communication. I get the impression they were going out of business and got rid of all their remaining stock, including it would seem some dodgy untested ones. I am probably going to stick with the faulty unit now as the faults are not that critical and I might be able to repair those LEDs myself one day.

    Apart from the faulty LEDs the unit functions perfectly with the GoFlight Interface tool.

    I did initially have a problem with all the LEDs going out whenever I turned a dial, and then switching the A/T arm off and on would bring them back on again, but I found that SPAD.NEXT, which I use for a couple of Saitek panels, was interfering with it so I disabled them in SPAD which solved the problem. SPAD seems to automatically pick up the GoFlight panels and invites you to adopt them in the sim's profile, but even if you decline and they remain greyed out it is still there in the background causing conflicts, so to permanently disable them you have to go into SPAD.NEXT Device settings/Goflight PNP devices - and select all off. That fixed it once and for all thankfully.

    Anyway thanks again for your time in helping me.

    Steve, it sounds very much as though GoFlight are not resuming business. This is very concerning given the imminent arrival of Microsoft Flight Sim. Do they have any intention of making their expensive products work with it?

    I know you have contact with them so can you ask them to make a statement about their intentions?

  • Hi Steve. I saw your post last night but it isn't showing this morning. The reason I'm concerned about GoFlight is their lack of public visibility. Nothing posted on their Facebook page or website for a few months. I've sent a message via their 'Contact Us' page. Let's see how they respond to that.

    I pulled that post, because Captain Paranoia jumped on my shoulder. I thought maybe I shared something I shouldn't have. Relationships are fragile things! I've since concluded what I said was OK. I think GoFlight must be in great shape, from my own experiences. The world is upside down right down. I think GoFlight are focused on moving the Company forward and I'm guilty of the same thing; neglecting communication because the focus is on delivering change and new products, not communication. When you have a vision, you prioritise, and rarely communication comes to the top of the list for us creative sorts. GoFlight of recent years was focused on Social Media and communication; and in my personal opinion; they focused on very little else.

    I don't know the current Management Team, and my contact John has now left. I do think GoFlight are sorting things, they are acting and behaving exactly as I would do, in their situation, so it gives me comfort. But like I said, if GoFlight do close their doors, which I highly doubt at the moment, GIT will be around for many years to come and support far more platforms than you can imagine.

  • Hi Steve, I hope you're right that GoFlight are in hibernation rather than close to ceasing operations. Mark's experience with so many problems with the MCP was very concerning.

    The problem is that customers aren't mind readers. If a company stays silent how are we to know what their intentions are? If you have a contact there it might be worth poking them and suggest they make their intentions public.

    As far as Pollypot goes I know you're working on a new program. Perhaps an announcement about it and what it will be able to do would help. I'm not concerned about your company but GoFlight's silence is not reassuring.

  • Thanks Steve, much appreciated. At the very least they need to provide a driver for their hardware so it will work with Microsoft Flight Simulator.

    My message to them posted on 3 August has not been answered. That's pretty shocking really.

    Quite possibly but that shouldn’t prevent the website being updated. Or even a post on Facebook to keep people updated.
