X-Plane or Bill Gatus of Borg GIT learning path?

Getting higher on my priority list is diving much deeper into GIT. Seems I've been saying that for years now. I’m fully retiring at the end of the year and hope to devote much more time to learning to get my GoFlight modules to work with various aircraft. Much more GIT will have to be learned. I have some rudimentary programming experience from years ago and actually quite enjoy the learning.

I’m getting a new Jetline system delivered this week. I have built all my PC’s over the past 15 years of simming, however I decided to buy a nice system off the shelf this time. My GoFlight modules are all torn down and INOP. I have a working 5 port USB2.0 hub that I would not part with for love or money! Going to take meticulous notes when building my GoFlight modules back up and bringing up GIT this time around.

I bought a copy of X-Plane. I consider it hedging my bets for an unpredictable future. As time allows I will come up to speed on the sim and all that goes with it.

Question: From both an ease of learning point of view and a future a GoFlight module GIT configurability point of view, is one path (P3D/MS2020 or non simconnect Xplane) easier to learn? I’m hoping to avoid spending a few years learning GIT for P3D/Ms2020 and then having the proverbial rug pulled out and HAVE to move to X-Plane if I want to use my GoFlight modules.

Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.

  • GIT works in the same way for P3D and XPlane. The only difference is naming. X-Plane uses Commands and Datarefs where as Simconnect uses Events and Variables but they are the same thing.
