Displays of MCP and GF166 not working revisited

With the releases of MSFS2020 I dug out my old GF devices and installed GIT to get them working again. I learned in these forums that the MCP, GF166 and GF46 had problems with modern Windows 10 USB power management and with trial and error I got them working. They worked flawlesly since today. I had to dismantle my PC setup in order to move to another room. After reconnecting all devices with the same USB hubs, all displays stayed dark.
Of course I checked in Windows if all devices, hubs and root-hubs had USB Power management disabled. I even reïnstalled the GIT software but no luck, displays stay dark. What can be the cause of this? Nothing had changed, no software updates between today and yesterday. No new hardware, just unpluging everything and reconnecting caused this behavior. Is Windows saving some hardware Id’s or whatever?

Comments

  • Are they visible in Windows Printers and Devices?

Are they plugged into a powered hub?

Are they connected to USB2 rather than USB3 ports?

  • Yup, checked all the above. Got them working by reïnstalling the GoFlight drivers although I am not able to use the GFConfig because I have only MSFS2020 installeren. After a reboot the displays worked again?
  • Installing the drivers will have meant Windows8Fixer ran which would fix display issues.
  • I can confirm. You have to install the Config Software from the GoFlight Website to get the displays working. All the modules will showup in the windows device manager with their correct names, but without the GoFlight Software the displays will not work. Not really happy with the situation at the moment - seems to be a kind of with duct tape glued together type of thing. From GoFlight themselves we will probably never hear anything again. There Website is still up, and Facebook is there too, but I think the company is dead. Our only hope is therefore Steve with his GIT. Only tried my GF166A modules at the moment. the other ones still need Testing.

A mention somewhere that the GoFlight Software is needed for the Displays to work would be helpful for the first-timers. Slowly getting the hang of things. But the display of my GF-MCP refuses to work. The dials however seem to work. Most likely a programming issue on my side, as my GF-MCP PRO works fine. Need to read into things more. Maybe there is even a finished config somewhere.
