CDU won't display anything

Hi there,

I just bought the software and was super exited to try out my CDU. I followed the instructions but I have simply a blank screen. It wasn't really clear which version I have to install in the manual so I decided to go with the latest one "EngravityCDUPMDGInterface_Setup_2_0_5_0"

I put in all the information Baudrate etc. but the CDU won't display anything and no buttons are pressed in the sim when I press a button on the CDU. Can someone please help me? What did I do wrong?

.netFramwork and PMDG 737 NGXu are up to date

I use P3D v5.2 with the latest Hotfix. I tried restarting everything in the correct order as stated in the manual.

Many thanks!
Kevin

  • Hi Steve,

I've read that about 20 times. None of those points fits my issue.

I am running the latest version of the 737NGXu
The aircraft is sending data and I don't have the 737 as default startup scenario. It's the F35 and then I change to the 737
    I don't switch between models

    What else could it be?

    Thanks

    Kevin
  • From the picture it looks like you have the wrong CDU which it won't work with, is it the newer version?

    Best wishes
    Steve
  • No it's the old 1.05 one which should be supported if I haven't misread that?
  • The version 1 CDU is not supported if that's what you have, which I suspect you do because the screen colour looks wrong compared to mine, which is green coloured.

    Best wishes
    Steve
  • Do you have the 737 or 747 CDU? Usually only the 747 CDUs are green and I have the 737 CDU. The system requirements say

"Fly Engravity CDU (Model 737 [Non-Colour Version] or 747). ... The version 1 CDU with the VGA & USB interface and the new Colour CDU are not supported."

I do not have the version with USB and VGA. It's only USB and the screen is not the coloured one. To me that sounds that my CDU should be supported as it matches the requirements. Correct me if I'm wrong though :)

My bad then, I have the 747 version. You don't have a physical COM 1 port on the PC do you? It may be worth using something higher in case their is a clash. Say COM5.

The keys should always work, which makes me think its a communication problem.

    Best wishes
    Steve
  • I tried every port until 20 ... Can you please confirm my installation is correct? What else could be the problem?
  • Hey Steve,

Well, I finally figured it out myself. In the manual I was reading that the device manager would display Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge. In one of my screenshots you can see that I was missing that entry and since you haven't mentioned it I thought everything must be fine or the Silicon thing was just something from older versions.

I simply checked all drivers and there it was - drivers got updated and I now see the Silicon thing. Just had a test run and everything is working fine now.

Thanks anyway for your help, I appreciate it :)

  • Hey guys,

I have a similar problem as Kevin.
My CDU version is 0.06 and I am running P3D5 within Win10. I load up the 64-bit Engravity CDU PMDG interface and get the three greens on the status tab (COM 1 port selected). The CDU boots up satisfactorily, passes test, before going to standby as expected.
Unfortunately, that's as far as I get; upon loading a PMDG airliner, there is nothing happening with the CDU unit.

A fairly obvious(?) thing missing is that I dont have a driver (I bought the CDU unit second-hand), and a search on the FlyEngravity website was fruitless. Does anyone know where to get a functional driver, which presumably is the root of my problem?

Try downloading any free driver updater software. I used Ccleaner (professional) which also has the feature to update drivers. After I did that everything is working. Maybe it'll work for you too :)
  • Many thanks for your suggestion!

Ccleaner did the job; located and installed the driver successfully. Only thing extra I had to do was change the COM setting to correspond with the allocation indicated in the Silicon Labs title and at last the CDU has come alive.

Really grateful for your time, consideration and help!

No worries mate! Hopefully Steve will update the instructions as this could be helpful to a lot of other people running older hardware :)
