Mesm

Hello Steve

I am trying to use the mesm as a starter/generator panel for a twin turbine. I think I do not know how the selector switches work?

In the UI it shows 7 positions but the switch only has 4?
When the switch is moved between the positions it is generating double commands. I was trying to use with a bespoke with logic and it was driving me crazy. So
I set up a simple toggle command parking brake at each position and when you move the sw to any position but the far left you get two parking brake commands?
It is like the switch is giving a command when it leaves a position and also when it arrives at a position? Is this the way it should work??

Thanks
Terry

  • Hello Steve

As update. The right hand (engine 2) switch appears to work ok.
Is there something other than a bad switch that could cause this.

    Thanks

  • Hi Terry,

I have just looked at mine and the UI shows 3 options for input. Are you using the DIO or the MESM? What version of GIT are you using.

  • Hello Steve

I am on the latest version 2.1.13. I was referring to the Input Event fields not the Input field. I also have three selections for the input two selector knobs and the center three way switch. All inputs show 7 input event choices position one through seven. The knobs only have four and the switch three. Also when I first go to the mesm tab the input is on selector 1 and the input events are on , off and hold like a regular switch, but when I select another input and go back to selector 1 it the shows the 7 position events?

When I first started this morning, the left selector worked as it should but after trying a few changes it reverted back to what it was doing last night. I have now done a lot of testing and it is not repeating as I thought, but when you move to position 2, 3, or 4 it sends the event for that position AND also sends the event for position one.
I believe now that this is a software not hardware issue.

    Sorry for confusion.

  • Hi Terry,

There does appear to be a minor bug. When the MESM tab is first selected it should set the Input Events to Position1 - 7 and NOT show ON/OFF/HOLD as these are for buttons. To work around this just select a different input and then Position 1-7 is always shown.

The EFIS positions represent each position around the selector starting from the first one on the left (POSITION1) and moving fully right (POSITION7). The MESM only has 4 positions so only use the first four positions - POSITION1 to POSITION 4. The other positions are for DIO selectors which have 7 positions.

Select the relevant position for the input concerned and pick the simconnect event or bespoke event that will be executed when that position is chosen.

I'll fix the bug ASAP, but the work around should suffice for the time being.

  • Hello Steve

Thanks for prompt reply. Please focus on the last paragraph of my previous post. This is the one that has me stopped.

    Thanks

  • Hi Terry,

Make sure you have nothing assigned to ON OFF or HOLD when you first start GIT and pick the MESM tab for the first engine selector.

  • Hi Steve

I am not doing a good job of communicating. My real problem has nothing to do with the initial input events being on off hold and I am using the workaround.
My real problem is once I have used the workaround and I have the 7 position events available for selector 1(the left knob) I assign a separate event to each of the first 4 positions.
Then when I move the knob to either position 2 3 or 4 it sends the event for that position as well as the event for position 1. For example the assignments are for the left knob

    Pos 1 Parking brake
    Pos 2. Prop inc
    Pos 3. Pitot heat on
    Pos 4. Pitot heat off

When I move the knob to each position this is what I get using the detective with events toggled on to see what is being sent.

    Sw pos. events sent
    Pos 1. parking brake
Pos. 2. Parking brake AND prop inc
Pos. 3. Parking brake AND pitot heat on
Pos. 4. Parking brake AND. Pitot heat off

I hope this makes it clearer.

  • Hi Terry,

Check the back of the MESM and make sure there are no shorts. You will see a circle of soldered connectors behind engine 1. I had a short on mine and needed to use a screw driver to scrape away the extra solder and then it worked correctly. BE VERY CAREFUL IF THE SHORT IS OVER A TRACE LINE!

    Best wishes

  • Hello Steve

A short was indeed the problem. I was able to fix so on to next.

    Thanks
