1st December: A new version of the GoFlight Interface Tool for MSFS is now available.
12th November: A new version of the GoFlight Interface Tool for X-Plane is now available.
6th June: A new version of Virtual Flight Sim Hardware is now available (huge update)
21st November: A new version of the GoFlight Interface Tool for FSX/FSXSE/P3D is now available.

Quick Tutorial on using GoFlight Interface Tool Part I (of III) [ FSX, SE and P3D only! ]

This is my first tutorial so bear with me.  I recorded in 4K but realized many users maybe running at lower resolutions making it very difficult to see the text ... as such I scaled the screen make it larger and hopefully readable for 1080p or higher (but it does leave areas cropped out).

I'll be doing two more parts covering more advanced topics and will release those at a later date.  Hopefully there is enough here to get people started or at least pointed in the right direction.

Cheers, Rob.

Next weekend I'll hopefully have Part II done.

Steve, if you see anything that needs correction/clarification or better way to accomplish please let me know ... any constructive feedback is great to have.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Wow!! This video is absolutely terrific. Reading and trying to figure it out, (especially with my level of coding knowledge) is a challenge. Having someone actually show me how to do it .... Priceless!!
    Can't wait for 2 and 3.
    Thanks ever so much
    Dave

If I might offer feedback: If GIT and what is being done in the software could be a little bigger in the video, it would sure help these aging eyes! :-)
  • Thanks for feedback Dave, part II and part III I'd do in standard 1080p which should be large enough for most users.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Was a bit hard for my eyes even on a big screen.
Thanks very much for this now I can understand a lot better, looking forward to your next chapter.
  • Rob, just wondering what's the status of Parts 2 and 3? I hope you've not abandoned this project. It's been very helpful so far.

    Thanks,
    Robert
  • Sorry, it's low on my priority list and I'll be on vacation this week and next week.  These tutorials take a long time to do and I'd have to block out two weekends for each part which I just don't have available any time soon.  But with that said, I hope I can get it done closer to year end.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • The GOFconfig is so user friendly, clear visual interface no need to be Engineer or carry degree in Aviation to config your Panels, 5 min and you are up and in the air .....  truly miss it (-:
  • Hi Yair1956

GFConfig is fine for aircraft that follow Simconnect standards. Most good aircraft no longer do this so GFConfig is useless for those. This is where the GoFlight Interface Tool fits in. If you want to fly default or compliant aircraft, carry on using GFConfig - that is what it is good at!

Bear in mind when using default aircraft that comply with standards, you can configure the MCP PRO and MCP simply by clicking the FS Default button. Same with GF166's (Click the NAV, COM or ADF button).

I think for some users, a crib sheet is needed for the most common configs - something I have been thinking of doing for a while now.

  • yair1956,

I'll probably get to Part II of my tutorial this weekend, but I'm afraid it'll be in 4K again, just too difficult to get everything arranged on the desktop at 1080p.  4K does look ok (read able) at 1440p ... but I'll do what I did in my prior video which is Zoom Detective in post production via my video editing suite.

Agree with Steve, without GIT most (so far I'd say 90% or more) 3rd party aircraft have events/Lvars you can't get to with just using GFConfig.  In fact, if GIT didn't exist, I wouldn't be using GoFlight modules ... that's how reliant I am on GIT.  My Part II video will demonstrate this when I show how GIT can access REX/Milviz WX Radar Lvars and special numeric only events so I don't have to use the mouse at all to access my WX Radar.

In addtion, GIT allows me to map aircraft Knob positions to actually RP48 buttons ... in my case I didn't have a free 5 position knob and I wanted to keep the WX Radar modes consistent with other aircraft (like PMDG 737, MJC Q400, others) that set WX Radar modes with buttons and not a 5 position knob.

But just so you know, you don't really need to be a "Programmer" to work with GIT, the Bespoke coding is very very very simplistic ... the difficult part is understanding how the 3rd party aircraft work with Lvars and Events ... some are easy some are more complex to understand.

Another side benefit of using GIT and Detective is that it really helps one understand all the controls/options the aircraft developers have coded for the aircraft giving end user a better understanding of how the aircraft works.  When one is truly "mouse" free, it's really a great feeling to fly an aircraft without ever have to reach for the mouse ... you can get things done in the aircraft much faster and more accurately.

    Cheers, Rob.

  • ...hello guys and thanks for taking the time to post your comments

...again, maybe I did not make my self so clear (well, English is not my native language , sorry)

I have no doubt that, things getting quite complicated in our World". and as mentioned before 'm not arguing about the necessity of top notch piece of software that will enable us to communicated with the Bird that we are flying, however, you need to make it simple for the common public, & GFIT is not, can you imagine yourself getting into your new little Civic and Salesperson telling you that if you really want to gain a full access to all it features you need to remap your CUD and mess with the ODB2 , ..come on guys, we know that, fortunately, it doesn't work like this ... 10 minutes after you done with your paperwork you on your way with state of the art machine, barely know how to open the hood.

...from  Joe Shmo the Plumber perspective, GFConfig was the right and the only approach, WYSIWYG it is visual, you do not need to deal with Bespokes. Events. Lvars, Etc & Etc terms & terminology that sound like Mandarin to most of us. as mention before, scrolling through hundreds of drop down phrases that looks like Enigma Encryption, it is tedious and time consuming, this is very old fashion way, we all remembering DOS and the commands we had to type, no ???....  , honestly and as much as it sound and look stupid, I was looking for command that will enable me to turn the Panel Light on/off on my little Bonanza, well, couldn't find any, but I found few things that enable me to operate Space Shuttle, and a blip ....lol ..

..... guys, it's not only about GIT, same apply to any aspect involve in our hobby now we have SPAD-NeXT, that deal with all Saitek Stuff, and we have XPUIPC to deal with VRInsight & other stuff, and we have AirManager and Scrips Photoshope if we want to get our instrument to run over the Network, & Orth4XP to deal with our Scenery, and something  that I don't remember the name to deal with the weather and on top of this we need to put a new Rig and tweak it ..and so on ..and so on .....  I thought I'm here for the purpose of virtual flying .... but find myself turn into a Sim Technician and not a good one .. RW flying getting much easier and the virtual one way to complicated, no future this way (-:

    Cheers

    Yair

... need get my Little Bonanza A Battery tender, sits in the hangar since I got my self to X-Plane some 3 weeks ago .... FSX & its CTD were the main reason for migration

  • Sorry, didn't get around to doing part II ... several personal matters came up and I got busy doing other requests.  But here is the software I use to create the physical panel layouts that I place over/attach to the GoFlight modes (P8, T8, RP48):

Here is a link to some of the Templates I've made:

I print the templates on a laser printer using thick grade paper and then laminate the paper and hole punch and/or cut out squares (buttons).  You can also get non-permanent glue dots to hold the face plates down.

For those of you with some extra cash to spend, the FPD Templates can be used to send to Front Panel Express company and they will make a face plate for you and ship.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • hi im new im using fsx 737 PMDG and im tring to configurate a goflight R48 to use it as the 737 mcp (heading selectotr, altitud, speed, cours) but i cant get anything to work can you help me pleas
  • Hi Rob, I just can´t thank you enough for this tutorial!
You taught me to program my first switch ever! B)

Now - two weeks later - I am not able to live without GIT any more!!!

    Best wishes from Austria
    Alex
  • I need to complete Part II and III that I keep promising, with the holiday season coming up I might have some time to do that. But GIT has changed a lot since I did Part I of this tutorial ... GIT is even easier to use today with more functionality, so much so it's changed my approach to setting things up.
  • Hi Rob,
the holiday season seems to be the best time for sim-jobs, right?
That will be the time when I´ll try to finish my overhead panel.
So your good intentions are just in time for me.....

What would I do without your voluntarily shared knowledge?

    Cheers,
    Alex
  • hallo

  • Hi Rob.

Am new to GoFlight-modules and Pollypot-software. Enjoy your videos very much and try to learn more and more...Have one question. In part 1 you ewxplain making a new bespoke-event. Want to hide the commands which have been running after monitoring, but I miss the buttons Hide and show selected commands.....a, I missing something..?

Thanks for your time and your videos....

    Kind regards,

    Anton Will van Zoelen
  • Hi Anton,

Can you provide a specific time reference in my video so I have a better understanding of your question?

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Hi Rob,

Thanks for your quick respons. Is video one around 10.42 when you want to hide the commands...I don,t have those buttons...(see photo)

    Thanks...

    Kind regards,

    Anton Will van Zoelen
  • Oh I see, what language is your OS set to? This sounds like possibly wrong VC++ or other runtimes were installed? Assume you have the latest version of GIT?
  • Anton,

It looks like a bug to me. Try putting the Detective window out of full screen and see if they appear.

    Best wishes
    Steve
  • Good morning Steve,

No effect, have changed language Windows from Dutch to English (USA). No effect. Is new installment (after saving all my xms-files) an option..?

    Best wishes,

    Anton Will van Zoelen
  • Hi Anton,

I have no idea what is going on here, I have never had this issue reported before. Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

    Best wishes
