Intro and Questions
Looks like I am going to be haunting this place for some time. Thought it best to take a moment and introduce myself, get a few questions answered and truly define myself as a complete clueless noob.
Recently purchased two 166’s, one G46, two G8’s and one T82 directly from GoFlight. Over 30 days after they had my money I finally have the 6 panels in two 3 wide cases under my second monitor installed.
I mostly fly Manfred Jahn’s C47 with DC3 Airways, other old piston ac, including the Milviz Beaver. Been flight simming for just over 12 years, although until P3Dv4 was a reality this spring I moved away from the hobby thinking it was over. So nice to be wrong. I also have the Q400 and PMDG 737 and joined a VA that allows me to fly the DC3 on Vatsim for required flights as I learn the 737 and Q400, all in good time. Now that you know my life story I’ll get to the point of the post. Thanks for your patience!
Have all the panels powered up, no USB conflicts, they are running on powered USB hubs. However, loading the GoFlight software is a complete non starter. Absolutely no communication between GoFlgiht software and the sim. I have a dedicated higher end computer running P3Dv4.1 with ORBX and AS. Pretty much that’s all that is on the computer. GoFlights software won’t even begin to communicate with P3D. The software hasn’t been touched or updated in over 10 years. It’s beyond pathetic. I get nothing. I suppose I could contact GoFlight and make an attempt at support, but from what I have seen I’m not holding my breath. I knew what I was getting into.
Let me also state I am more than willing to be patient, learn, RTFM and take my time to get this hardware running and truly learning how to use it. I have read through most of the GIT manual, watched Ron’s video a number of times, read the FAQ and much of the past few months support forum posts. Questions still linger… perhaps I’m just dense. But at the risk of making a fool of myself, I’m going to ask anyway…
The GIT page says it only works with P3Dv4.0XX Hotfix 1. I have 4.1. Am I SOL with 4.1 and need to wait for the next release to use GIT with 4.1, or can I buy it, load it, begin learning it and start having some fun?
Can I give the GoFlight software the boot? Do I need drivers from GoFlight as outlined in the FAQ in addition to PollPot GIT? The link in the FAQ is dead. Do I need both?
So there you have it. I will await responses with baited breath and hope to continue this saga as I learn more. Thank you for any pity on this hapless clueless soul.
Cheers,
Radial9

GoFlight's software has been updated to work with P3Dv4, but its really only for simconnect compliant aircraft.
GIT works will all versions of P3Dv4 from the hotfix version upwards (I need to update the page). The GoFlight drivers are only needed for the GFDev.dll which is their SDK.
Best wishes

I'm getting ready to start up this learning curve over the next week or so.
Thanks Steve.
Best wishes

I’m trying to wrap my head around, at least the beginning of, the near-term learning path to begin to configure and use this hardware using GIT. I know it will take immense effort and patience, but I’m going to go for it, again. I’m getting ready to retire, so I hopefully should have time to pursue this, again.
The first order of business is to get the eight GoFlight modules to utilize the USB ports power settings correctly. I think I understand the issues of USB power management (following the post here and have read most all the links and have used them to manage power on my existing GoFlight gear) and believe with patience I can get them all powered and up and running. At least until Bill Gatus Of Borg (you will be assimilated) pushes out another Windows update and I have to redo them…. Again.
I’m tearing my whole system down and putting in a new Jetline system over the next month or two. My thinking is I should start with seriously advancing my knowledge of FSUIPC first. I can do that.
I’m of the understanding that LINDA is NOT intended nor should be used for GoFlight modules. It can, and should be, used to program buttons (along with FSUIPC for control axis) on my WH HOTAS and Throttle.
For the GoFlight modules I’m going to need to use PollyPot’s GIT. I have read the GIT guides, many times, and no doubt will do so again, many times. I understand I should start by using existing written profiles supplied by users and over time come to comprehend the Detective tool and begin to configure my own preferences for the GoFlight modules.
Would anyone suggest an aircraft and user supplied configuration to start with? I have both P3D and XPlane and GIT software for both. KISS!
Thanks for any advice. I quite realize this is going to take years, not months…
Cheers,
Bob
I would try the PMDG aircraft as your MCP PRO and EFIS will be automatically configured, you just have to enabled them in GIT.
Best wishes
