GFIT "collapse"
Hello Steve and all:
Today, Saturday (27th of Oct) I had a "major" crash of my P3D v4.3, on Windows 7 Pro.
It was during VATSIM's "Cross the Pond" event, so the frustration was magnified, as I was "doing so well".
Two programs were significantly affected. One was vPilot, the program that connects my computer to the VATSIM network. An uninstall/install fixed it.
GFIT was different. I got the on screen "halted" comments that others got here, and GFIT freeze when PMDG models were involved. However, going through various posts here and the following the advice given, I was able to restore GFIT's functionality.
I renamed the Documents/GoFlight Interface Tool folder and that "revived" it.
Unfortunately, I have two issues. The first is that all of the settings for my several modules have been erased (x 3 PMDG aircraft!) and that means that there will be a lot of reprogramming, if that is what I have to do. I see a "GoFlight Interface Tool P3Dv4.exe.config" file in the Go Flight folder but I do not know how to read its contents. Does this mean I have to start reprogramming?
The second issue, is that after some minutes on the screen (say 5 minutes), the "combo" drop down box of any/all modules freezes. It does not show the modules (0, 1, etc) and therefore I cannot enable any module and/or program a button/rotary. Other buttons on the GFIT main screen, such as "Settings", "Status", etc. work ok.
The only way I can continue any programming again, is to turn off GFIT and restart it. Even the latter option is not always successful and I have to shut down everything (PC included) and start anew. Luckily whatever I managed to save, remains there.
Quite a mess.
As always, I am greatly appreciative of any advice you can offer, to get me out of this "situation".
Regards,
Roberto

Just an update on my situation.
I have managed to program a few switches, buttons and rotaries.
This is a rather intermittent process, because most of the time, the combo drop down menus do not work. Even when I restart GFIT. As the boxes are all gray, I cannot program the respective modules.
When I start GFIT, the button settings that I managed to save, the MCP PRO and EFIS, all work OK.
What additional information should I include here, to help diagnose the issues?
Thanks!
Roberto
If renaming the directory fixed the problem, then your config files got corrupt during the crash. You will need to restore the files from a backup if you have one. GIT does make a backup automatically, so the renamed GIT directory should have a folder called Backup inside it. Rename those backup files by removing the .bak extension and then copy them to your new Documents\GoFlight Interface Tool directory.
Best wishes
Steve
I transferred (and renamed) the .bak files.
Unfortunately, I think that with all the attempts I made to fix the issue over the weekend, the original .bak files were likely overwritten. Their creation dates, show yesterday's.
The situation is as follows.
All the buttons and rotaries that I managed to program yesterday, work fine, as does the MCP Pro and EFIS.
GFIT opens up OK and the three status lights turn green. All the devices connected, are listed properly.
Notwithstanding that some functions in some devices work (the ones that I managed to program), on the Status page, all devices are shown as "disabled".
When I click the tab of a device, it does not always change to that device immediately, more often than not, I have to click the tab twice, before it will open that device page. I also have to click the "X" twice, to turn off the GFIT.
Once the device page is shown, everything is grayed. The combo tab, for example, will not respond to mouse clicks and threfore the drop down list does not show up, and I cannot program any more of the buttons and rotaries that I didn't manage to program yet. The same with the events and actions drop downs.
Intermittently, and I have not been able to relate it to anything (switching to another device, turning off and on the GFIT, restarting the sim, etc) the combo tab might react and I can programm some buttons.
I have version 3.6.1.1
Many regards and thank you as always.
Roberto

Yes, minimizing the sim window solved that issue, and I will be able to reprogram GFIT.
Now, for what I hope is the last question on this issue.
Is there a way to retrieve the original settings file, before the system halted on Saturday?
Is it hidden somewhere or, with all my attempts to fix issues over the weekend, it has been hopelessly overwritten?
I am just trying to save myself many hours of button and rotary programming (and first reviewing the tutorial videos to remember how to do all of that).
Thanks one more time!!

The backup file was, unfortunately, not helpful.
Reprogramming it is!!
An important lesson I learned this weekend, is to backup all the configuration files for the simulator and store them away from the simulator computer, just in case.
Best regards,
Roberto
