  • Ok, back to the drawing board!
  • I have a hunch it's .NET 4.6 and Win7 64bit ... is it possible you can do a GIT build using .NET 4.5 target or are you using features only available in .NET 4.6?

Or perhaps provide a build that logs startup output to file so we can provided you startup log that might give you clues ... I've had to do this before with projects that worked in one environment but not a clients.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Hi Rob,

Already tried that with Terry. I'll have some time tomorrow to hopefully sit down and crack this.

    Best wishes

  • Hello Steve and Rob

You might want to send Rob those tries as he is much more knowledgeable than I am and might spot something I missed. I will be away from my computer until later today and from Thursday afternoon to Sunday est.
Should I try uninstalling net 4.6?

    Thanks
    Terry
  • No immediate rush now that I have 2.25.2 and 2.1.18.0 working ... I'm not exactly sure what's in 2.26.0 and 2.26.1 ... GF report it as 2.26.1 in OS Control Panel - Installed Apps, but in GFConfig it shows 2.26.0 ... I'm guessing GF just didn't update versions in all the assembly attributes?

GF suggests that 2.26.1 is P3D V3 compatible, yet I've been using V2.25.x with V3 without issue?  Looking at GF 2.26.x I saw nothing in there that suggests anything P3D V3 specific ... certainly nothing to indicate a V2 or V3 selection ... only one option for P3D path.

Is the update just about making sure EXE.XML entry is added?

Anyway, appreciate you looking into this Steve ... if you need some assistance let me know, I think you have my eMail.

    Cheers, Rob.

  • Hi Rob,

2.26.1 only changed the postinstall program, nothing else changed.

2.26 got GFConfig to recognise a version 3 installation, and postinstall to add the entry in exe.xml and ensure flight sim and the data bridge run as administrator (for iFly 747 support). Nothing major changed.

    Best wishes

    Hi Steve,

Couple of issues I noted while doing my GFConfig 2.2x.x installs and uninstalls and my GIT 2.1.18.0 installs and uninstalls:

    Issue 1
GFConfig 2.26.1 install mangled my EXE.XML ... removed most of my other entries and created it's own entry which was done incorrectly (P3D caught the error and logged it).  Fortunately it backs up my EXE.XML before changing.

    Issue 2
I also noted that GIT had made several backups of my DLL.XML and GIT created a new entry for itself even when an entry already existed ... this left my DLL.XML with two GIT entries.

However even after correcting these issues, I still could not get any version of GF 2.26.x to work with GIT 2.1.18.0.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Thanks Steve,

Will give it a go tonight and report back.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • UPDATE: tried the new 2.26.2 Beta ... unfortunately the issue remains, no change.  I made quick video here showing what happens when I start GIT with GF 2.26.x installed.  Also opened up the event viewer but that error is just because I had to use taskmgr to shut it down.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Thanks Rob. Can you confirm no flight sim was running at the time.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Install this version of GIT and modify the desktop icon and add  /log at the end of the Target entry.

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/cp6yfqxhqtp0gov/GoFlightInterfaceToolP3D_Setup_2_1_18_1.zip?dl=0

This will create a file called log.txt in My Documents\GoFlight Interface Tool.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Yes, no P3D and no XP running at the time.

Excellent ... will try 2.1.18.1 tonight and report back.

    Cheers, Rob.

Here ya go Steve from Log.txt file when GF 2.26.1 installed:

    22:29:34 SimConnect Connection Starting.....
22:29:35 GoFlight Worker Thread Failed: Input string was not in a correct format.

And the log file when GF 2.25.2 installed:

  • So it looks like GoFlights Beta drivers are working OK. Can you try loading Prepar3D with the 2.25.2 drivers so I can see how far the connection process succeeds.

    Thx

  • Thx Rob. So its running OK, its just the UI locks up. Its not a .NET 4.6 issue as the version I asked you to test is 4.5.1. Its a weird one!

  • edited October 2015
Not sure what you mean running fine?  Did I mis-understand your testing requests above?

I runs fine with GF 2.25.2 but not with any version of GF 2.26.x.  Once the GIT UI locks up, GIT will not work when P3D is running.

See error "22:29:35 GoFlight Worker Thread Failed: Input string was not in a correct format. " above

    Cheers
  • Hi Rob,

Your testing is fine. The latest GoFlight drivers have fixed the GFDev.dll problem. I can see from the log that everything is running as it should except the UI has locked - the question is why?

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • The "GoFlight Worker thread failed ..." ... this is reporting an error from GFDev.dll referenced routine?

    So you're run-time dynamic linking to GFDev.dll?

    Cheers, Rob
  • Thanks again for spending time with this Steve ... like other's I have donated again in appreciation of all your efforts over the years.

I'll be perfectly frank with you Steve, if it weren't for GIT, I wouldn't be buying GoFlight products.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Hello Steve

+1 for Rob's last comment. I am back with my computer so I can again help test.

    Thanks
    Terry
  • Thanks for the donation Rob.

I've been without my development PC since Sunday . Faulty RAM caused Windows to get corrupt and the whole thing is still in the process of being rebuilt. New RAM arrives tomorrow so I'll be able to look into this issue again around the middle of the week.

GoFlight are also going to produce a new BETA driver rolled back to VS2013 from VS2015 to eliminate any compatibility issues that have arisen.

    Best wishes
    Steve

  • No rush ... oh I see, that's why the VS2015 runtime install.  In theory a VS 2015 DLL should work in a product (P3D) built with VS 2013 ... but good idea to match up VS compiles to eliminate any possible variables.

Best of luck getting the PC back and working.

    Cheers, Rob.
  • Hello Steve

Sad to say no change. Still locks up.

    Thanks
    Terry
  • Ok. Thanks for trying.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Can you try this version of GIT with the latest BETA GoFlight drivers. Before installing please uninstall GIT and the GoFlight drivers ensuring the GoFlight directory is completely empty.
