MCP-Pro and Zibo B738 with David Williams configuration freezes from time to time

Since a few months I have a special problem with my MCP Pro and the Zibo Boeing with Davids settings.

If I fly the Zibo B738 approximately 1 hour, the MCP Pro "freezes" and I can't use it until I plug out and in the USB cable and press "reset" at the GIT. After 30 seconds the MCP Pro is working fine until the next "freeze". And this freezes are not after a given time. The time it freezes is not after the same time. Also I checked my USB hubs, that there is no energy saving active.

My MCP Pro has the serial no. A25 24567 012 34567 36 and I have it since a few years. If I use any other GA aircraft I don't have this problem and the MCP-Pro is working 2 or 3 hours without a freeze.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Regards,
Martin

  • Hi Martin,

If you have to unplug the MCP PRO then its a Windows/hardware problem. If just resetting GIT works then its a GIT or profile issue. It appears you have the A25 firmware so I would check windows power management is disabled on all your USB hardware that connects to the MCP PRO.

  • Hi Steve,

I've bought 2 new USB Hubs and checked the power management again. So I found 2 or 3 devices, where the power management settings were wrong. I think the last Win10 update is the cause.

I have 11 devices (GoFlight and Throttles) which I first connected to one 11 port Hub. This hub have its own power supply, but 11 devices at this one hub don't work without problems. 1 or 2 devices disappear and I can't use them from time to time. Now I bought another hub and if split my devices to the 2 hubs it works - at the moment.

It's quite difficult to find the right usb hubs for so many devices. Do you have an advice at which options I must look buying a new hub?

    Regards,
    Martin
  • Contact RayProudfoot on this forum. He found some good hubs that work well.

  • Ok, I'll contact RayProudfoot for the hubs.
Now I have the new hubs and the same problem. I make a 3 hours flight with the latest zibo and the profile from steve. I have unchecked the power management at all devices and after 1 hour flight the MCP Pro freezes. The digits are freezed and if I turn the rotaries or use the buttons nothing happens. If I restart GIT I the the message attached.

If I disconnect the MCP Pro GIT quits and after I reconnect the MCP Pro and restart GIT all is working for the next half an hour.

How can I check the settings in windows?

    Regards,
    Martin
  • If you have to unplug the MCP PRO to get it to work, then it's a power problem or USB compatibility problem. Goflight recommend USB2 or USB1 hubs and ports only.

  • Ok, but one interesting thing is, that I only have this problem with the MCP Pro and the zibo 737. If I use any other plane with the MCP Pro, I can fly hours and the MCP Pro did not freeze.

Maybe this problem could also be caused through my old GoFlight modules? I have a GF-45, P8, RP48 and T8 which have black panels. I think they are more then 10 years old.

Also I installed version 2.27 of the GoFlight config. At the moment I deinstalled it. Should I install a specific older version?

  • Hi Martin,

Perhaps the Zibo uses more of the MCP PRO functions so causes the issue?!

  • Hi Martin,
This is strange. I just completed an 8 hour flight and everything worked flawlessly.
I only have the MCP Pro, EFIS, 2xGF-166 and GF-LGTII.

  • I came across this by chance. This is the USB hub I bought as my previous one which was fine with W7 was not compatible with W10. Everything is now fine.

  • Thank you Ray,

but now I plugged the MCP Pro direct to the USB 2.0 port of my PC. Again after 45 minutes the rotaries and buttons don't work. If I want to close GIT this doesn't work until I unplug the MCP Pro (then it close). All other GF modules (EFIS) are working. After the new start of GIT the MCP Pro works only 15 minutes and then also stop working.

The energy management in windows is setup correctly. No standby mode for devices is activated.

Is there a config file I could send for Steve or David?

  • Martin, swap another GF module with the MCP. If the problem remains with the MCP then the problem lies with that. If it switches to the swapped module then it’s the USB port. Make sure all USB devices are unplugged and run Windows8Fixer.

  • Thank you Ray, the last time I already tried to swap the ports of some other GF modules with the MCP-Pro and only the MCP freezes at every port. Even at a direct USB 2.0 port of the PC. So maybe it is a problem of the MCP.

Now I unplugged all USB devices and run the Windows8Fixer. This Fixer I found in the package, after I installed the GFConfig. I executed it this admin rights and there was no special ok message. Should this be ok?

Now I'll try again the next few days.

    Cheers,
    Martin
  • Hi Martin. There’s no message after Windows8Fixer has run. I suspect it makes changes to the Registry. You can check the MCP Pro using the executable I attached to a message in this topic. It will show you if all switches, dials and buttons are working. You need a MCP with firmware A25 or later. That is displayed briefly when the PC is booted up.

  • Thank's Ray,
I tested, but last flight my SECM stopped working. Now I get the attached message. This message I got since a few weeks and I clicked on "Ok". Maybe this is the reason for my problems?

How I can solve this problem without deleting the whole GIT config?

    Cheers,
    Martin
